over the last year or so I've slowly been learning about baseball by playing OOTP, watching MLB and following the reds.
I'm getting quite good at managing my bullpen on OOTP5, i.e. when to pull pitchers, who to put in given the situation etc, and it's really satisfying when you get it right and get out of a jam or just shut down the opposition with well-timed pitching changes. But I've never really used the fielding options that are available in game, for fear of choosing a really bad option and harming my teams chances. So could someone go through the fielding options (outfield in, infield in etc etc) and when I should be using them? As I've never played baseball and only been watching on and off for a year or two I'm not very knowledgeable on this aspect of the game. |

Outfield in: Only used in situations when the game winning run is on 3rd base with less than 2 outs.
Infield in: Used when there's a runner on 3rd to prevent the runner from scoring on a weak grounder or when you are positive the batter will bunt and there isn't a force at 2nd. Corners in: Used when you expect the batter to bunt but you want to still have a shot at the double play. Guard lines: Used in situations where you want to prevent a player from hitting a double down the line Those are the basics. |
