Post More sophisticated league structures

I've been thinking about creating a set of fictional leagues with structure similar to that of European soccer leagues, where (as I understand it) several leagues have their own champions, who then compete in a tournament in a "League of Champions", and every few years national teams compete (ultimately for the world cup). I've experimented with different ways of doing this, but they all seem to require a great deal of cutting and copying (plus, the record keeping becomes a real pain). So I'd like OOTP5 to have the option at least for a more sophisticated/complicated league structure.

And, if MLB is serious about having a World Cup-style tournament sometime, OOTP would already be set up to simulate it.

I would love to have a setup like they do in the English soccer leagues. You could have anywhere from 2 to 4 "leagues" with the best teams in league 1, the next level of teams in league 2, etc. With 4 leagues, after each season the bottom 2 teams in leagues 1 to 3 drop down to the next level league and the top two teams in leagues 2 through 4 move up one league (I think that's the way they do it in soccer, though I may be wrong). That way if you have a team near the top of league 2 through 4, you are playing not only to win your league championship but to move up to the next league and if your team is at the bottom of the standings, you are playing to avoid demotion. Now, how you would do that in OOTP without a degree in computer science or going nuts is the question. But I think it would be a neat twist as it would really test you ability to run your team.

After reading the thread mentioned, I think that it may be too much trouble. But then again, maybe one day I'll try it. Thanks for the link.
