Actually designing the new site is part of why I haven't been writing a lot of news lately. I learned how to use dreamweaver to design it -- it's a lot better than Frontpage, which is all I'd used before.
To "design" it?

Tail between legs edit (but stand behind the above): Credit where credit is due... "altered" would be a better choice of words.

Thank you for at least dealing with Simms ahead of time.

Easy guys. Travis contacted me before Christmas about using some ideas from our design. I've been talking to him on and off since then.

Nothing to see here.

Now you take our NEW site and try and pawn it off as your own? And try and thank FOBL for "inspiration"?!?!?!

HOW ABOUT SENDING US A CHECK you stupid half-wit. Try running one non-suck league at a time and maybe you will have enough creative energy to eak out a league web site using Excel or something.

Unbelievable.
Personally, I think we should leave it up. It just reminds the rest of us how lame you guys can be sometimes and how childlike and lame your posts can be.......Just my opinion.

I deleted it, but thanks for quoting it because I actually thought it was pretty funny in a coked-up Paula Poundstone sort of way....

Congrats on your first post, kiddo.

The FOBL treats its members like family, really. When they think an injustice has been done, they go a bit wild. Sometimes a bit too wild. But since Simms and I put a couple months worth of free time into the site and we just had a previous incident, you can understand where they might be coming from.

FOBL is twisted and infantile, for sure. But we're also one hell of a community.

I am not your "kiddo". I am probably twice your age, from what I can tell by your posts.
And I hate Paula "I'm a druggy Mom" Poundstone

I haven't been posting, but I have been watching..........

I saw Paula Poundstone in concert once. I thought she was hysterical.

It's kinda too bad that she can't leave her hands off of boys, 'cause she had quite the career going.

*sigh*

Subby's actually 87. Too many years of chafing and he gets a little testy.

I know of your incident and I know the people involved. While I think you weren't wrong, your way of approaching the matter was WAY over the top. Could have been easily handled in a more mature way. Some lessons were learned and most of us learned who not to associate with......

We are who we are. And for the most part, we're comfortable with that. If you like us, that's cool. If you don't, that's fine too.

With the other incident, it probably didn't help that the FOBL had a previous bad history with the co-commish of the TMBU.

Tell you guys (Mile High et al) what...

How about I break into your house, take your car keys, steal your car, and slap my own license plate on it. Then I can drive over to your house and gloat about the great new car I just got.

The best part is, when you start whining about how it's actually your car, I have the right to get indignant and bitchslap you for trying to raise a fuss.

Sound good to you?

I do this (web design) for a living...at least I try to. Between us, Malificent and I put in close to 200 hours of work on the FOBL site. And we did it for nothing. If I were selling that work to a client, I'd be able to feed my family for a couple of months.

If you don't want to deal with the collecting reaction of the FOBL, quit ripping off our ****. Grow up and put some friggin effort into your own site. If you have no coding skills or creativity, then a) maybe you shouldn't be trying to run a website in the first place, and b) if you really need something, go use one of the phpNuke scripts. They're free.

(fwiw, this is not directed at Travis, whom I commend for having the decency to go about this the right way...just a general rant.)

You are barking up the wrong tree......
And your ears/eyes must not be working too well.

I didn't say you were wrong(wait, I will repeat that - YOU WEREN'T WRONG!!), just how you handled it was wrong. Rant and rave all you want, it just proves my overall point...... handle issues with some tact, especially when you are right. Otherwise, you look like "high school age" idiots when trying to correct things. A mistake was made, put aside your "previous" issues, and get it corrected without standing on your soapbox so the whole world can see you and hear you.

That is a sweet league website. I like the changes Travis made to the FOBL template to suit the needs of his league. It's a very fresh approach.

The guys at the MBBA and Simms should be proud of the work they've done there.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but the state of current copyright law makes it incumbent upon the author(s) of intellectual property to protest loudly and visibly when material has been taken without permission or risk having that property fall into the public domain by default. With published items, the publisher themselves usually handle this. With websites, it becomes the responsibility of the content creator.

The FOBL has been, at times, over the top, I'll agree, but at least we've created a recognizable trail of evidence we can point to if we need to defend our intellectual property rights.

I will also admit that I'd be fascinated to see the expression on the judge's face when some of these transcripts were entered into evidence in a copyright infringement suit.

We've given way on today's episode. (Thanks for letting us know ahead of time Simmsy )

If you knew half of the history behind yesterday's episode, you wouldn't be so quick to "put them aside" either.

Not saying, just saying.

Even though I mentioned you by name, Mile_High, that post wasn't really directed at you, either...I apologize for inferring otherwise.

That said, how would you suggest we handle it? A quiet e-mail to commissioner of the offending league politely requesting that they change the website? Okay, let's assume we go that route. The website gets changed, the FOBL's collective roar is silenced, and nobody gets hurt. Fine.

Then it happens again.

And again.

All the while, we play the nice guys and do our part to police theft. Yay us!

Or....

We can go ape**** on people. Raise hell on their forums, on this one...generally berate anybody associated with the theft under the public microscope, causing embarrassment, and with a little luck, some vitriol toward the offending league. (And to the FOBL of course, but anyone who knows our league probably already knows that we don't particularly care about that...I think somehow, we'll find a way to go on.)

Ideally, raising such a fuss will make other leagues thinking about doing something similar stop and consider the ramifications, whether it's our site they're planning to rip off or someone else's. If that's the case, then mission accomplished.

As I said in the thread yesterday, public flogging and humiliation is too *light* a sentence for the idiots who insist on doing this. If people don't care for our particular brand of "childish" reaction, then make sure your commissioners aren't doing childish things like ripping off people's websites and calling them their own.

*shurg*

I agree with your first statement.

As for your 2nd statement, that expression would probably be him showing his bewilderment at something so trivial making it into his courthouse.

Now, I am not a lawyer. But, normally, when there is a copyright, isn't normal for there to be some notification, and then the person who screwed up is given some time to either come to an agreement with the person/group who were wronged or fix the problem? My point was that it was just plain wrong for you guys to attack and not try to fix the problem. All you wanted to do was tell everyone about the problem and post your threats. So, the problem grew into this big deal that got way out of hand.

Bottom line here, he is now fixing the problem and very soon it won't be an issue. So, maybe we should all concentrate on that instead of continuing along these "I'm a lawyer, you're going to get sued" posts.

Mile High -

Hey baby. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I know you probably aren't such a dillhole in real life.

Seriously - just because you are an overly superior fuc</i>ktoid with a negligible sense of humor doesn't mean that we can't a) be friends b) swap stories about how we lost our virginity to three-legged pigs.

Anyway...no hard feelings. See ya' at the PTA bake-off!
