Fan Support/Trades

When a team makes a major player acquisition, shouldn't the team's fan support increase or decrease rapidly? Say you traded for Prior and Wood, your support should go through the roof immediately. Currently, I believe so anyways, you'd have to start winning with those players before you start getting better support. Any chance of this occurring?

Could also work the other way, if you get rid of your whole team, your fan support goes down, poor attendance, no income, lose TV deals etc.

This is not an area that you want TOO much shift in as it can mean RAPID doom money wise for a team's future. In fact this past year we tried to slow and lessen the changes that would take place here.

Well look at the Orioles, you think they're fan support went up with Javy and Tejada? We should try to make it more realistic. And obviously if you're losing a ton you don't have much fan support to begin with, so selling off your players shouldn't hurt too much. Plus it'll give you money to move the following year and put you up to 50/100 for fan support (I believe anyways). If you sign someone huge, you're spending lots of $$ so you should be rewarded with some more income.

You will, IF the "good moves" by your team pays off with WINS.

So when Im the Indians and trade for Contreras, Pettitte, Posada I shouldn't have my fan support increased at all? You know those fans would buy tons of tickets in the beginning.

Most fans won't come out unless the team is WINNING. Look at the Raiders this year, they were the defending AFC champs and were supposed to be a great team again this year, but as the season went on and they were losing more and more the fan support went down. I saw many a game on tv at Oakland that the seats were empty because the product is bad.

The way this game works is like real life in the fact that if you get good players you will start to win, and the fans will start to come and support you. Look at the Marlins this last year. They were terrible but as they started to win, they got more support.

I know what you are saying....if you sign or acquire a "star" it should start to bring in some fan interest, but most people will not come out and support your team unless you are winning games.

I think things are fine the way they are....you are rewared for building a winning team, not how many big names you can sign.
Do you actually the Detroit Tigers fan support will improve that much for signing Vina, White, Johnson and Rodriguez? It may for the first month until they are 20 games out and then the people will stop going and stop caring about the team.

Currently, I think the game does a "pretty good job" on handling this area. Previously the "swing" was too great in too short of a time. I'm certain it could still use tweaking but I don't see any drastic changes in this area coming.

Personally, I think the team doesn't punish losing much at all- In the OTBL, I lost a 100 games for 2 straight years, in a normal market with less than normal interest, and still attracted 1.9 million fans or so- fan interest in the 20's I believe. Its very easy to accept losing, because the consequences of it financialy are limited at best..

Look at the Yankees new deal. ARod was signed and they're setting records for tickets sold already. Deals like that shouldnt increase your support?

I agree that you should see a spike as soon as you make a blockbuster deal. But after a few days it should return to normal and should, from that point forward, be based on wins.

Return to normal if they aren't winning.

OOTP doesn't know names only ratings at this point...so how would it know i.e. Tejada is a ticket seller?
Maybe his ratings took a big drop...or in a historical sim, he never got out of the minors? With the randomness of OOTP, a big name currently in OOTP could be an underachiever or a scrub could have a great season.

I get what you are saying some players like Jeter are worthy of their overinflated contracts because they sell tickets and merchandise (to women b-ball fans), and do terrible Visa commercials...but OOTP doesn't have that at all...so its worthless much as Jeter is at SS in the game. However, maybe the pizzazz rating will become reality (just an inside joke there)

For this game (in its current incarnation) Wins increasing fan support is the best option...if a GM stinks and can't win he should be penalized and vice versa a team that is on top of the standings year in and year out.

I disagree with Steve with his point that the swing was too big (the time was a slight problem but the rise and fall were pretty good) cause with version 5 I have seen too many teams tank or just plain do not know what they are doing, yet they make cash because fans still come...and they get a high draft pick...while the guy who busts his butt with a terrible team and landing in the middle of the pack (mainly due to the bad or tanking gms) get a 50/50 shot prospect and no WS ring or pennant. I'd really like more diversion in the difference between winning and losing to fan support and attendence
