Apologies for the ugly first post (is there any way to post that without it getting fouled?).

David Smith has completed his career in my league, and I figured I'd share his final stats for everyone.

The post above speaks for itself, but here is what the player page doesn't show:

Career Leader Rankings:

ERA: (2.59) #4, highest of all retired players

Career Wins: (407) #1, leading the closest pitcher by 60 wins. This active player is 38 and will not have a hope of matching Smith. The next closest player has 310 Wins.

Career K's: (4,389) #1. Leads the next closest player by 991 K's. This record should stand for a loooong time.

Career CG's: (185) #12

Career Shut-outs: (59) #2. Should keep this position for a long time.

Career WHIP: 1.06 (no clue how he ranks)

Has *FIVE* No-hitters spread over his career. Nobody else in the leagues has ever even had two.

Was Pitcher of the Year 3 times. (It's a huge system - 18 teams in the American and 18 in the National Leagues). Was Player of the Game 312 times, Player of the Week 4 times, and Pitcher of the Month 8 times.

Never lost more than 6 games in a row. Best win-streak was 14 games.

That's a helluva career. Loved his overall post-season stats, especially 1959. How many post-season rounds does the league have? Definitely should consider naming the Oustanding Pitcher award after him.

The playoffs are a 7-7-7 system, and I named the award for him already. The big question is which team should he wear the cap for in the HoF?

Seattle, but that's only because I feel players should wear the cap of the team they came into the league with.

Nice and do my eyes deceive me or did he pitch back-to-back no-hitters in 1971?

Ya gotta love that 4 man rotation.

I should start a new career with that....imagine 40 starts for 18 years...720 total, instead of 35 or starts over that same time frame.

This would give ya an extra 90 starts or so. I have never had a player with 300 wins, in over 100 seasons simmed...but I sure do like this guys numbers.

That he did!

Except Smith pitched in a 5-man rotation. If he'd pitched in a 4-man, his numbers would likely be even scarier. Though, for the first couple years of his career (up to '69 or so, if I remember right) I was running a 180-game season before scaling things back. However, he did the bulk of his stellar career after the switch to the shorter schedule.

180 games? How did that work out for you?

It went... interestingly. For some reason, it seemed to be causing players to retire early by a few years, though, so I scrapped the idea in the late 60's (I'd started the league in 1950). Seeing players who were healthy and rated at 5 stars retire for no apparant reason whatsoever was getting annoying.

Players' stats didn't really differ all that much from a normal schedule either, whch didn't help matters any in keeping it up.

If I try running an extra-long season system again, I'll do it with a smaller league then this one.
