Starters staying in to long?

Participating in a 1940's league and the entire league has the starters staying in WAY more then normal.

Did some stats. 71% of the time, starters pitch a complete game!

Best pitchers of today pitch a complete game 20% to25% of the time. And those are just the best pitchers.

I understand that my league is in a different era, but, is there anyway I can get my starters to get pulled earlier? Did starters in the 40's really stay in the game so much more then pitchers of today?

There is a "hook". Should I have that as a 1 or a 10? I've tried both directions (1 and 10) and neither seem to work...but, what should this be anyway?

Thanks, if anyone wants to see the league, go here. Think there are a couple of team openings too.

Any help will be much appreciated. I stocked my bullpen at the expense of my offense and am getting the shaft now.

Thanks, Steve

The first option that comes to mind is to set you leagues era to modern day where pitchers don't pitch complete games. Of course that could mess up your goals for your hitters as well.

You could adjust each teams sliders...sounds like a lot of work there however.

Hope one of these work out for you.

Not sure which year you're in, but here's a link to 1944. Looks like starters pitched complete games more than half the time.

Thanks for the replies.

I actually just manage one team...not the league.

So, for my team, if I want my starters pulled at the first sign for fatigue, do I set the "hook" to 1 or 10?

So you're trying to take your team in the 40s and make it follow the "modern era of specialization."

Sorry, I just needed to throw in the Chip Caray quote that he manages to include in every broadcast, whenever a reliever is warming up in the bullpen.

If you want starters pulled quicker:

Go to the Advanced League Setup and adjust the era settings.
Use the "era edit".

I use these settings:

Pinch hitting-Seldom
Use relievers-Not Often
Pitcher Endurance-Normal
Typical Rotation-5

Go to Team Strategies:

Pull Starter- 1 (Quick...all the way to the left)
Pull Reliever- 1 (Slow...all the way to the right)
Favor (Lefty/Righty) - 1 (Less...all the way to the left)

I get 56% complete games with these settings.

MLB in 1950 had 37% complete games. So I need to change my team strategies settings to pull my starters quicker. I will move the setting to 3...two clicks to the right on the "pull strter" setting and see how this affects it. Might change "use reliever" in the "era edit" to "Normal".

Thanks for this thread. It has pointed this out to me.

I play 1950's era baseball with 9 pitchers on each team.
During this era staffs usually were 8 pitchers...4 primary starters with 3 relievers (who also were occasional starters) and one late relief man (called a "fireman"...a forerunner of today's closer).

Do you want to play 1950's style baseball or Modern Day Baseball?

Select the era you want to play, then adjust the era settings and the team strategies settings until you get the results you want.

Sorry, don't know which settings (era or team strategies) has the most effect.
