Creating a Closer

Is there anything special I need to do to create a closer? I have tried to create a closer at least a dozen times and all I get is a middle reliever over and over again.

Any and all help from OOTP or from fans of the game would be greatly appreciated.

I would think you'd want your pitcher to have lots of VELOCITY AND STUFF...

If you don't want to be placed in as a starter, don't go too high on the Endurance. Whatever's left put in Control, obviously

I have asked this question already in emails to the development team, but its apparent that a patch for ITP that addresses this issue is not going to happen anytime soon. You get the same answer every time you will ask the question, "as soon as i have more information i will pass it on".
Hey look at it this way, at least you got a good months worth for your $20

In case i didnt answer your question, even if you modify your player to be a closer, he will always change back into a MR, its a bug in ITP. There is no real way to create a closer at this time.

Now I did create a reliever who was used as a closer in AA but a MR in A, AAA and the majors. I wonder if the game looks at only Starters and Relievers, and uses the best reliever as a closer?

The game will not make a closer out of a user-created player. It truly is a bug. The best reliever isn't always used as the closer, and I have only seen my players be used as a closer in the minors as well.

If you're still playing this game, I am really surprised. Let me know if you have found something new as it has been over a month and a half since I last touched it.

I really hope one of the designers and/or developers of this game reads this thread and decides to correct this closer bug. Clearly from the responses there are players who want to try having a career with a closer and clearly it would demonstrate that the designers and/or developers care about what players want if they would correct this bug.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who responded. I am really glad to know it's a bug so I can move on to some other positions.

As for why I am still playing the game I just got it about a week ago and I have only taken one player through an entire career.

The game does appear repetitive but I think it has great potential. I hope Marcus Heinsohn decides to improve the game and puts out a more detailed version next year.

If nothing else, don't let us create a closer but let the game be able to place you as the closer if you are the best for the job. Then you actually have to "earn" the closers role from the rest of your bullpen mates. Let's face it, who would ever choose to create a "long reliever" is the closer option was available in the creation screen?
