OT – Going to the Hall of Fame
My wife has to go back to NY for some training and after looking at the dates we decided to stay over and make it a mini-vacation. Hitting NYC to see the standard tourist attractions.
Now she is going to be in training for two days and it dawned on me – we are only 200 miles from Cooperstown!!! So I got the big OK from the wife and while she is two days training – I will be going to the Hall of Fame for two days!!!! I am 37 years old and this is my first trip – I am Psyched! My question to the board is for any guys that have gone: • where is a decent, but affordable place to stay • can I see “everything” in two days? • Anything else I need to know, any tips |

I haven't been there in awhile and I am only 80 miles away...BUT I remember a great brewery in Cooperstown...top notch, IIRC you can take a tour and get some free brew.
For your wife, there are a plethora of Antique stores that have great stuff in the towns preceeding Cooperstown, so if she has a liking for certain things (dolphins, bears..etc.) you could probably get something nice for her on the way back..brownie points ya know As for staying, get a bed and breakfast place, not a Motel Six, not much more expensive but 10x better Yes you can see everything in 2 days

I last went there when I was about 14. I've been there twice. I have a picture of my scrawny young self standing next to Nap Lajoie's plaque (he was my favorite player in history at the time).
You can definitely see everything in two days, from what I remember. It's a small place. I don't know about accomodations, since that was 15 years ago and I was too young to care at the time.

Cooperstown is beautiful, but better to see it in the fall. The coolest thing about the town is there are no national franchises. No Mickey-D's, no BK, no 7-11, zip, nada. I heard it's a city ordnance that they are not allowed.
The Hall itself is surprisingly small. When they built it they gave themselves hardly any room to expand. So you can walk through the whole thing in a few hours. If you are into memorabilia, there are card shops galore all over the place. You could spend a whole day just going through those. There is also some period museums in the area. I agree going with the B&B route. There really isn't much in the way of hotels, but lots of B&B's. The drive is cool too. Mostly country roads. The nearest interstate is like 50 miles away. Enjoy, you'll love it.
