When are people gonna learn that in a championship setting any team can win and that picking a blow out is insanity?

lol, Yeah I guess I'm the opposite after knowing damn well OSU would keep it within a TD if not beat Miami last year and then have everyone tell me I'm crazy, I just don't understand how people can pick blowouts in championship games.

I remember when the 'Niners played the Broncos in the Super Bowl, everyone predicted a blow out.
I'm one of those who predicted a close game because I figured the Panthers could get a couple deep strikes in. However, I don't agree with the blanket statement that predicting a blow out in a championship is always a bad call.

You're right, it would be so very intelligent to predict a blowout between the 2 best teams in their respective sport (or atleast the 2 hottest). ![]()

Guess I listen to the wrong radio stations. I didn't hear anyone predicting a blowout. Quite the contrary. Although they were wrong in that they predicted a defensive struggle, most people I heard did not predict a blowout. But the were wrong on two counts... predicting a defensive struggle (low scoring game) and predicting a boring game.

The media and most of america picked a close game, the Pats fans and some people on these boards were throwing out outrageous scores though lol. Saw a poll on espn.com that asked who people thought would win the super bowl and out of about 175,000 people the count was 49.9% for the Panthers and 50% for the pats. Almost amazing how close it was. |

Don't mean to rain on your rant parade, but the spread was 6 points, which, I believe, is two field goals, as opposed to the one wot won it. In fact, the whole of America seemed to be near enough correct. Considering that normally these odds are inflated by Pats fans betting on their team, and that didn't happen, its fair to say that most Pats fans were predicting a pretty close game. And to echo a previous point, I don't give a flying **** how close it was. ![]() [/break from celebrations while addled from lack of sleep and trying desperately to prepare for working in 30mins] |

Uhhh... I've just wasted my time going through the predictions, and only 3 (in a 5 page thread) suggest a gap of over 7 points. Meanwhile, 1 does the same for the Panthers.
![]() EDIT: The other thread had more 10 points or more scores, but it was still dwarfed by the number that pedicted a close game.

Geez, I live in N.E. and I didn't hear very many people predicting a blowout up here. Most people correctly thought it would be close, though without so many points. And since when are message boards an indication of an entire fan base??? And if betting on beating the spread is 'absolutely insane' why does Vegas even bother to put out odds? Maybe you should call Vegas with your advice, you could be a rich man!!

*cut to Teddyballgame starting his rebuttal* Shut his microphone off! Look, if you don't see that the majority of people in this country thought that the Patriots would win in a blow out, then you are completely blind, sir. Remember, this is a no-spin zone and I don't tolerate this garbage. I'll let you have the last word...
