I don't quite understand the rain delay concept.
If there's, say like my last one, a 63 minute rain delay, wouldn't that be 63 minutes that your starter would be resting his arm? So wouldn't that mean he would be more liable to last a bit longer instead of being tired? Just me? heh

63 minutes will do nothing significant in the resting process and will only do more harm by causing stiffness in the arm.

The player warms up, then sits a prolonged period of time. Normally takes 3-4 days for an arm to recover once it's cooled down. I suppose you could keep em pitching in the tunnel (for what reason, I don't know) but then they would be tired and probably not able to pitch anyway. Thus, the reason for stadiums with roofs.

Pitching puts tremendous strain on the arm. When the arm rests for a length of time after being worked out, it usually will stiffen up. This limits pitchers who come back after long rain-delays.

At first, I REALLY didn't like this...but after considerable thought, I believe that this is a good thing.
With no rain delays, there will be a dis-proportionate number of pitchers routinely working into the 8th inning. If a pitcher has 36 starts, and completes an average of 7 innings per start, then you get a pitcher with 252 innings pitched. This just doesn't happen much anymore. Very few pitchers pitch that much. Having them pitch 1, 2, or 3 innings 5 or 6 times a year is a good thing. Get them innings pitched down to 220, for the 2-4 starters, where it belongs. I don't much care for the fact that my ace pitcher will have a tougher time winning 20, but thats ok too. How many pitchers are winning 20 a year nowadays, anyway? |

There needs to be an option after a rain delay ends to warm up a new pitcher. Same thing when a pitcher gets injured. I am forced to bring in a new pitcher who hasn't warmed up yet.

For those of us who use the "warmup" option, it'd be great if after a rain delay we got a message on the PBP warning us of the likely impact on our SP, e.g., "Johnson probably will only be able to go another inning at most."

My only issue with rain delays is that there seems to be a lot of them.

It's amazing, I just simmed more than a 100 years, and not one rain delay became a rainout. This is unrealistic, and I'm never buying OOTP5 again.

The other is that whenever there is a rain delay, I've never seen more than one delay. Like, once the delay is over, it's like the rain cloud vanished. I'd like to see rain pickup and again and such. |
