Bogus player development?

Here is a posting from someone in my online league. Just curious if anyone noticed this before...

Okay, I just can't explain this, but it's very strange
granted i haven't been able to look IN the game since the first sim, but according to the website, something just popped up
Wednesday 1/29/2006 :

Reggie Taylor's talent in hitting homers drops...
Jason Miller increases his talent in getting strikeouts!
Jason Miller increases his talent in avoiding hits!
Jason Miller increases his talent in avoiding homers!
Joe Saunders's talent in avoiding hits drops...
Joe Saunders's talent in avoiding homers drops...

Now the date says 1/29, which means it would so up right when the season was flipped and prior to spring training
well none of it was there, nor was it there following spring training
now beyond that....none of the players were affected (I know for a fact that reggie taylor was an avg. in HR and not good, and that jason miller was previously a 3 star spect with avg., in hits, avg. in k's, and avg. in homers)
so I don't know if this is just a fluke, or if my players should have actually seen the effects of this

Is it possible the team development pages were updated but not the player pages?

No....the player pages are ok.

Im actually viewing it in the game now as well....and confirmed that player ratings have no changed from last seasons. Kinda strange. Unless....

Actually...I think I may know why now. When I proceeded to Next Season, there was some reason why I had to redo it....it must have generated the HTML for it....but when it was done over, the same player development never took place.

Does this sound reasonable?

The html files stay when you restore from an OOTP-created backup. The only way to start completely fresh is to completely delete the league and replace it with a backup you made through normal means (e.g., Windows Explorer).

That's correct. The text files that are the basis for the HTML generated pages (player history, transactions, injuries, etc.) are not deleted automatically if you have to restore or re-run a sim. In order to tidy these up, you would have to delete all of this out and restore them all from a backup. In some cases, it can be a sign of a cheating commish who is running the sim multiple times to get certain results. However, it can also happen to honest commishes who haven't cleaned out the files properly.

Damn....I got caught!

Actually...
I remembered why I went back to proceed to next season again. One of the owners in the league had a couple of players listed as DH...even though they were in the National League. Those players were arbitration eligible. I specifically told the owners that this type of activity was not acceptable because they would be offered lesser contracts than if they were slotted at their NORMAL positions. So....In order for me to assign them their appropriate contracts...I restored and then proceeded to next season again.

So I guess what happened was that the first time I did it, it had player development for some teams....but this was negated when I did it over again.

Ouch bad news for some owners.

The only way to handle issues like this fairly is to have strategic backups of the league file after every major milestone - then if an issue surfaces, be able to tell your owners your going to drop back to backup # "X", make the changes, and proceed again from there.

And probably good news for others.

The irony is that the team that had "tried to beat the system" was the owner who noticed and brought the player development report to my attention. So he never ended up getting the player development because he had players at positions where they would get less money through arbitration.

Ya....thinking about it now....I could have easily restored to another "temp league"....did what I needed to do, and then change the salaries for the specific players, manually in the "official league".
