Old Baseball Photo Treasure Trove.....
I just found (you guys may have known of this) the most exciting photo site of early 20th century player photos while doing some research on Addie Joss at baseballlibrary.
I noticed that Joss' photo was colorized with a link to the guy who had colored it. I went to his site to discover that he has done THOUSANDS of photos of baseball players and offers them in downloads of 20 photos each. He even lists each player and tells you which download they are in. The photos are already sized to include in OOTP. Just rename them. Now I know TigerFan has completed all the photo packs, but I thought this was very neat! There are some examples of his work here: http://www.portraitmatt.50megs.com/Photos.html here is the page with the downloads listed: http://www.portraitmatt.50megs.com/Downloads.html I am supplementing TF's facepacks with these colored versions for Baseball Union and wanted to let you guys know about these. If its old news, disregard. |

I have seen a link to this site on the board in the past, but it's such revolutionary work, that I don't think anyone will mind being reminded of it.

Beautiful work. I think someone posted that link before, but it certainly deserves to be bumped.

I'm downloading them all and burning them to CD right now!!
This is great stuff to have, if not for OOTP use, for purely historical reference. |

Yeah, these are sharp. Stacy's been using them in the BoS for quite some time.

Matt did some fine work on these. I ended up writing a program that would rename the files to the names used in the Lahman database so they could be "seen" by OOTP. It saved me a ton of time.
This reminds me... I forgot to send Matt a check for his hard work. Better get on that....

Stacy, does that program also change them to bmp files? If so, would there be any way for me to get ahold of it. Changing the names and formats was going to be the big work in this. Also, did you just put them all in the photos folder and not worry about when each player came into the league? Thanks. |

I used BatchThumbs to mass convert all the file types. Then I used my program to change the naming conventions to one that is OOTP friendly. I'll find the program if you'd like to use it.
As for how I use the pictures, I put them all into the photo subdirectory. Then every year that I edit the rookies, I click enable photos for each player I edit. If the picture is there, great... if not, I click it back to disable photo.

Stacy, how many of the files have you done already?
Would it be too much trouble to zip them up and make them available for download? |

It's sad looking at those pictures and knowing we cant get the same type of tough players in the majors these days. Ones that aren't willing to work their tails off like these UNDERPAID players were.
These pictures are great, let us know how it goes with all that Cooleyvol. edit-I'm downloading all of them myself also, and I was unable to get 3 of them. Broken link apparently. 21-40, 841-860, 981-1000 If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Some of them are in my 1901 league (in the Feedback forum)...I like black and white myself, but in my league you'll see the pics are the same just not colorized.

I've got them all unzipped into 1 folder if someone would want a complete file...it of course would be missing the files I don't have.
Cooley--could you possibly send me via email or whatever 21-40?

On a related note, Matt and I are working on a solution to get all the files in a "OOTP friendly" naming convention. Stay tuned!
