Angry Illegal Operation When Returning to "Schedule"

Hey there,

I just recently downloaded and purchased OOTP4 and am impressed with the game, but annoyed with its constant problems. It crashes quite occasionally, but all of them hadn't been reoccuring... until now.

I just finished playing a game in my Custom League, and when I clicked 'done' on the Box Score, I assumed it simmed the other games. However, when it tried to go back to the schedule, I got an Illegal Operation, as follows:

OOTP4 caused an invalid page fault in
module MSVCRT.DLL at 017f:780019ef.

Now, everytime I load that league and try to go to the schedule, I get the same thing. I'm really upset, cause I want to play this game, and it's doing its best to keep me away. I'd really appreciate some support in this matter...

My PC
AMD Athlon, 1.3 GHz
512 Mb RAM
32 Mb Nvidia TNT2 graphics card,
DirectX 8.1
Win98 Second Edition
Running OOPT4 version 4.0c

Please help.

Did you have anythingelse running in the background when this happened? Does it allow you to open other parts of the game in this league besides the schedule?

Have you tried restarting your PC since this happened? Then trying to run this part of the league?

I do have other things running, but I'm able to load other leagues and go to their schedule page without error. Also, I can go to any other part of the troublesome league, including team pages, standings, news, league leaders, etc. I have not tried rebooting just yet, but I have tried backing up and restoring the league, to no avail. It's obviously the league that has the problem, however, because other leagues don't have that problem.

Try making a copy of the entire league folder then open the "copy" league and go to "league setup" and choose the "reset league". See if that will allow you to go to the schedule.

Hmm, okay.

I did what you instructed, made a copy of the league (a direct folder copy) and then loaded up the copy. After "Resetting" the League, the Schedule page would load, but, of course, the schedule had been reset. Is this the only solution? I admit, it's better than nothing, but I would prefer to get my season back. Thanks for the help so far.

P.S. Is there any 'official' bug list that I should submit this to so it can be addressed in a future patch.

Its noted... but we need more information to diagnose what actually happened to cause your problem.

You mentioned you had frequent crashes earlier... this is troublesome... were there any common threads tying those crashes together. For example did they all occur while simming games?

All of the other crashes were either freeze ups, or completely 'undocumented' (i.e. not an illegal operation, just a dump to the desktop). I can think of one case when it exited to the desktop while simming games. Another time it had problems when I tried to remove leagues (found out through the boards not to delete league folders) and that was solved. At least one other time the program has crashed, but I don't believe that was during the simming of games. I can't remember exactly what it was. However, that's at least three crashes in the two days I've had it, which is really bothering me. Thanks again for the continuing help.

The crashes during the simming of games are all related... they occur because a team had an invalid lineup/pitching rotation/depth chart (this is the most common cause of crashes in this game). To fix it check all the lineups/depth charts/pitching rotations and make sure they are all filled in and valid. Sometimes after an injury or trade the lineups or rotations will become invalid, causing the crash.

An easy way to check the computer teams is to go to the League Setup screen and Click Run Automanager on All Teams... this will fix the computer teams up, preventing that type of dump to desktop.

Well, I guess I'm stuck. No more help is coming, so I assume I just have to start my league over again? Is there no way to fix this? I really want to go play the game, but I'm waiting for a reply on whether or not my problem is fixable. If not, I'll be upset, but I'll get over it. Just wanna know so I can play the game.

I don't think that the season you were playing is recoverable, but if resetting the season solved the problem of accessing the schedule screen atleast you can restart the league.
