Password Protected League File Question

Hi all.. I run a league and have it password protected so that the owners who have it don't abuse the game. What I want to know is there a way of getting around the password protection in order to see true ratings?? Make contract offers?? I don't want to take the league file away from the group but just want to make sure there is no way of cheating from their side. If there is a way how can I fix it that will stop this from happening??

Thanks...

No one can see the true ratings of players, this is hidden in the code.

As for password protection, the Commish password overrides team passwords but each owner should have a password for his/her team. This prevents other teams from looking at their FA bids and a few other things. They won't be able to make contract offers, but should be able to see what a player is asking initially.

So the answer is no, owners cannot abuse the game.

So there is no way of exporting the the players file into another league?? I have been hearing wispers that teams are.. I know you can put a non team password protected player into any teams player tracker but there is no way of rigging something to see true right???

If you move "players.dat" to another league (as others have in the past) you get an "invalid player file" message.

The player tracker does exactly what its name says. It tracks a player.

I use it a lot in online leagues. Here's one example of how. Say I trade away a decent prospect for some immediate ML help or for whatever reason. I'll add the prospect to my player tracker and follow his career to see how he turns out. It's sort of neat to go back and look at the 3 star prospect 4 or 5 years later and see how he turned out. Generally I track every player I trade for a period of time, prospects and ML'ers. If they don't pan out or fade away, I usually drop them from the tracker.

It's also useful to track players you may wish to acquire at a later date.

I think it was a great addition to the game. I definitely don't see how you could use it to abuse the game, it doesn't give you anymore info than if you went and looked at a players html report.

I know of two ways to crack the password. One (really more than one) is to use a general password breaking program. I'd rather not reveal the other. We play with a password plus an honor system. We also play without coaches and scouts, which I supported partially to eliminate the biggest potential advantage of breaking the password - seeing the ratings.

The BOSI exporter will extract the true player ratings. From there they can be viewed in just about any spreadsheet application. It's a piece of cake and I could do it in 2 minutes for your entire league.

As far as contract offers, I'm sure there is a way to get them, but the easiest "cheat" is to make your offers and then look at the current offers report. If your team is listed as the best offer, you will be tops unless someone offers greater than you the same sim. If you offer is not tops, just redownload your league file and up your offers till they are tops.

Just a couple of the reasons why online leagues need more attention from the developer.

Ok, assume it's the 2nd pre-season FA sim. Sim 1 ran days 1-3, so sim 2 will run days 4-6...

Some player (we'll use Barry Bonds as the example) is a potential FA. You bid 10 mil for 5 years first sim. I bid 11 mil for 5 years. Obviously, he likes my offer better...

So you check at 10.25 and 10.5 and 10.75 and 11 and 11.25 (all 5 year offers) using your idea of redownloading each time you check. You now THINK you have the highest offer. HOWEVER, I also raise my bid (or some 3rd team bids) to 12 mil for 5 years, and uplaod. There is no way for you to know about my bid until AFTER the commish imports it into the master....

Your "flaw" you think can be exploited, is only exploitable, assuming nobody other than you raises their bid for that specific player during that sim....

As long as there are passwords, there will always be people who can find ways around them. You just have to trust that people in the league aren't doing this. If they are and the commish can prove it (there are some signs that would suggest that this is happening that you can look for if you are a commish), then they should be removed from the league immediately.
