Pyramid System Replay
Hi Guys,
after having the game a while and starting and stopping a few projects I think I have found a system I like for an ongoing project that gives some good entertaining fights without the fights between lower rated fighters that I am not too intrested in. My main aim in a historical replay is what if? What if boxing had been controlled in a sane and fair way and championchips would have been only won in the ring and the most deserving contenders got regular shots at the titles and champions defended often. Aiming towards this goal I have come up with a system as follows. Only the classic eight weight classes will be simulated folding all other divisions into the higher class above it (junior welter into welter). Each divison will crown its first champ with a single elimination eight man tourney. This World Champion will be the undisputed champ but will have to defend his title four times per year against the champions of the WBC,WBA, IBF and WBO in 15 round fights. The above four organisations will each crown their own champion in a vacant title fight. Each organisation champ is considered a "top contender" for the undisputed world championchip and as such automatically gains a shot at the undisputed world champ each year. To earn this shot at the world champion each organisation champion in turn has to defend their organisational title four times against other top ten contenders in 12 round bouts. To determine which contenders get shots at the four organistion champs a final eliminator is held over ten rounds. To show you how it works in practice here is an example. April 1960 Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion - Ingemar Johansson WBC Heavyweight Champion - Floyd Patterson WBA Heavyweight Champion - Sonny Liston IBF Heavyweight Champion - Zora Folley WBO Heavyweight Champion - Eddie Machen WBC Final Eliminator - Henry Cooper VS. Willie Pastrano WBA Final Eliminator - Alex Miteff VS. Cleveland Williams IBF Final Eliminator - Roy Harris VS. Archie Moore WBO Final Eliminator Billy Hunter VS. Mike DeJohn Lets say for arguments sake the winners of the April final eliminator bouts were Cooper, Williams, Moore and Dejohn in may they would face the organisation champs as follows WBC - Patterson VS. Cooper WBA Liston VS. Williams IBF Folley VS. Moore WBO Machen VS DeJohn after those bouts are played out in June the next organisation champ due for a shot (in this example say the WBC champ Patterson) would get his shot at the WORLD champ Johnasson. If Patterson loses he retains his WBC title and must defend it again another four times before gaining another shot at the world champ. If he wins he becomes world champion, vacates his WBC crown and the former world champ and another leading contender (lets say Clevland Williams) have an immediate box off for the vacant WBC title. Then the whole process starts again with the WBA champ getting the shot at the undisputed World champ the next time and so on. Note that even if Johansson wins the vacant WBC title in the example he must defend it another four times before gaining a shot at the start of the next year. I have started with the Heavyweights and decided on 1890 as my starting year and will add other divisons when they become active enough. I will be matchmaker for all bouts for eliminators and tournaments to ensure fights are made I wish to see. The first round of the 1890 Heavyweight Tournamnet will pit the following fighters together in the first round over 12 rounds. Peter Jackson VS. Peter Maher Charlie Mitchell VS. Joe Choynski James Corbett VS. Jake Kilrain John L Sullivan VS. Joe Goddard I will revert with updates of the replay as often as possible. rgds Dean |

I like it.
When you first srated out, did you give the organizational champs immediate shots at the title, or did they have to earn it with four defenses in the beginning as well? |

Peter Jackson Vs. Peter Maher
Pre Fight Analysis
The first bout of the tournament to crown a heavyweight champion under the new Pyramid system is under way. Devised to sort out the real mess the heavyweight division had become over the last twenty years and to ensure the very best contenders and fighters fought for the championchip without worrying about creed or colour. It's fitting then that Peter Jackson is involved in the first bout. Seen by many as the uncrowned champion of recent times Jackson known as the black prince, now George Godfrey is injured and unavailable to compete is by far the biggest danger to those who would attempt to keep the heavyweight championchip in the hands of white America. Matched with Irish champion Maher he is seen as a very heavy favourite in their bout. Seen as too skilled, to big, to powerful and too experianced for Maher the general opinion is he will dispose of Maher sometime in the latter half of their ten rounder. Maher for his part although considered both brave and tough just does not have the necessary skills to cause an upset. Also his questionable chin and defensive skills will allow his opponent to cause some major damage. rgds Dean |

Jackson VS. Maher
Peter Jackson enters the ring looking a little under trained this is a tip off some start to claim that age is starting to catch up with the great warrior.
This theory is soon seen to be absolute rubbish as Jackson starts round one like an express train landing powerful lefts and rights on his hapless opponent at will. a series of smooth overhand rights soon has the overmatched and very worried looking Maher in trouble. Jackson then lands a peach of a left hook which lands on Maher's temple and has him spluttering back to the ropes where he lands in a daze as the ref counts to ten above him. As Jackson gets the plaudits of the crowd (rotten tomatoes and eggs) a scowling Boston Strong Boy is seen hurredly leaving the docks muttering about getting back into training! quoted after the bout Jackson says "Maher was just too slow and too crude, give me Choynski next that little man needs to be taught about who is the real champion! I would have been champion years ago but they were afraid of me. Well now It's my time!" Both Peter Maher and Joe Choynski were unavailable for comment. RESULT PETER JACKSON KO1 PETER MAHER rgds Dean |

Charley Mitchell VS. Joe Choynski
MITCHELL VS. CHOYNSKI PRE FIGHT ANALYSIS
Intriguing matchup with Choynski being a slight favourite due to his overwhelming power and clever shifty style. He may find Mitchell equal to him in this regard however as the British champion is considered one of the most crafty and tough battlers currently fighting. Both men were originally from the lower weight classes before moving up to fight the bigger men and both have had problems with heavy punchers in the past, so this would seem again to favour Joe as he has carried his power with him up into the higher division where as Mitchell has not. Mitchell's best chance seems to be to make it a rough, tough brawl inside where he is most at home and not to give Choynski room to land his big bombs. Mitchell enters the bout as a slight underdog and the smart money seems to favour a Choynski knock out. rgds Dean |
