Queer Street: as in stemming from a queer (different, strange feeling). The fighter is on queer street - he was in trouble, not sure where he was, dazed, confused.
However, upon review, I'm thinking that it might not be very politically correct and possibly offensive. Look for it to be removed in the near future. Sad times when we have to worry about this but we want to respect everyone's views and preferences. |

Jim,
If it's OK to have a show on TV called Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, then it should be OK for a fighter to be on Queer Street when he's rattled/discombobulated/confused. |

I'm afraid I agree with Jim. We all know that Queer Street has nothing whatsoever to do with gays (Remember when "gay" meant happy and carefree?), but this is exactly the type of thing that could send a careless reviewer or a political correctness nut completely around the bend and cost the game sales from bad publicity. None of us want that, because we want the game to succeed so we can have addons, roleplay, automatic aging of fighters, and the other million or so things we've asked for.

I doubt if you're going to get the "mainstream" here anyway so keep it in...word of mouth is what can help sell the game but unfortunetly this is a pretty specific genre...WE LOVE IT, we don't want idiots complaining about graphics et al. Jim, be content to be worshipped by we who can appreciate what you've done here.........but I digress

As far as out-of-place text goes, I'd rather see the references to the ring card girls removed. It's a little odd to hear that when the fight you're running takes place in 1899...

I've seen the references to the ring-card girls, but have yet to SEE them. I know they exist in the game. They are in one of the animation files.
Am I the only one to NOT see the ring-card girls during gameplay? |

Your Right There are pictures of theose ring card girls and other stuff that I've had not seen yet either.
Has anyone had those to show up yet. Also what about those ones in the 1024x768. I run the game at 1280x1024 Could this be the reason why Could it be the speed at which you run the game(I mean the game speed). |

The word queer still means odd. Counterfeit money is still referred to as queer. I say keep it in. As for ring card girls......puhleeeze! I already have enough trouble explaining this game to my wife. It's supposed to be educational software.

I do not think the term should be removed. It is in no way offensive and is a part of boxing terminology.
I mean, seriously. I am an advocate of homosexual rights, but it would be riduculous to say that a fighter "being on Queer Street" is politically incorrect. That is so ignorant. If you were to remove the term, then using the same logic, the comments about ring girls should be removed as well, since the idea of a "ring girl" is so sexist. The Tyranny of the Secular Sacred rears its head again... Last edited by Hollywood Blond; 12-19-2003 at 12:49 AM. |

Anyone that has ever followed the sport knows what being on "queer street" means. If you take it away, you will also take away part of the authenticity of the program.

I favor equal rights for all, regardless of sexual preference, but I think that the term "queer street" is not offensive, as it refers to the word's legitimate meaning: "strange."
This reminds me of when a white mayoral aide a few years ago who was forced to step down after using the word "niggardly" correctly. Fortunately, many African-American leaders, including Jesse Jackson, rightly insisted that he be reinstated. In an unrelated line, I also believe that it is more important to reflect the past accurately than try to "clean it up" and give a sanitized, false picture of the past. So I would urge you to retain such nicknames as "The Brown Bomber" and "Kid Chocolate." If a kid sees these in the game, I hope his father or someone else can expalin the context, and how the world has changed. The Arranger |
