Between Seasons Bug

After winning the world series in a continuing career league, I got married to my chick and went to next season. My contract was up, and I agreed to re-sign. I said yes and it locked up. I closed the program and went back in ok, but I had to sim every individual day of the off-season and there was no free agency, no resets of the stats (team records did reset though), retirements DID occur, no contacts advanced in years, and the game just kind of went back into the next season. I guess the biggest problem is guys like Luis Castillo, who fell just short of the NL record for stolen bases with 102, are going to smash that record and pretty much every season mark short of ERA or AVG will fall as well. That and my team kind of held together when it shouldn't have since I got guys in the last year of their contract at the deadline.

Are you positive that you were really locked up? The off-season may take quite a while to process things. Sometimes you may have to wait longer than you would expect in order to allow the game time to process everything that it needs to. It sounds like part of the processing had been completed.

Yeah, I went to the store since I'm used to the delay. It wasn't moving at all and the Windows manager thing had it listed as dead, which isn't always right, but...reinforced what I had feared.

this sounds to me like one of those screen saver lockups....... sometimes when you leave and a screen saver comes on, or you have your moniter set to turn off, the hard disks on your computer turn off too, after that, often your game won't run. I dunno if you can fix it, but for the future, you might want to try this: (My best guess)

Get into your power managment properties, usually found in the screen saver section of your display properties, if you power scheme is set to always on (I am guessing it is) then make sure your hard disks don't turn off, and don't let the system go into standby either....... windows likes to lock things up when that happens.

What windows do you use? 98?

Pretty much the same thing just happened to me, except my system crashed when the game told me my contract expired and to go to the manager screen or whatever. When I restarted the game, all of the stats from the 2003 season were moved to 2004 in the player cards (although the player histories were correct). This was in spite of the fact that the date in the game was correct; Jan. 2004. I also noticed that ALL of the player's contracts were extended by one year. Not that it mattered; there was no option to begin free agency or any offseason procedure. All I could do was sim days, even though no schedule was created. Also, there was a news story that one of my pitchers won the player of the week award on 1/27 for another team, even though he was still on my roster. I think everything else was normal, including the fact that the players aged correctly.

A possible problem was that I had recently set my machine (PIII500, Win98, 512 RAM, 20 GB free HD) to standby after being idle for a half hour. However, the machine wasn't idle for any time. I'm pretty sure it was a crash; I gave the CPU about 5-7 min. for processing and nothing happened. Also, the "end task" box said it wasn't responding.
