now they're saying he is just deactivated! even better... he gets paid but he can't dress and can't participate in team functions and he can't sign elsewhere. The Bucs retain his rights so they can trade him... way to go Bucs!!!

Not a Bucs fan at all but it's good to see teams taking a stand against these jack-a**es

Len Pasqurelli (sp?) is reporting on the Dan Patrick Show that Keyshawn's "People" have told him they expect him to be released at the end of the season. But there may be a market for him and they may be able to move him in a trade during the off-season.

Does anyone have more information about this?

From the little I've read so far, it's just bizarre. Does this save Tampa any money somehow? Or is it just that Gruden is sick of Keyshawn?

ESPN article

In the latest shocking development from a championship defense gone awry, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have deactivated former All-Pro wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson for the rest of the season, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports.

According to Pasquarelli, Tampa Bay likely will look to trade Johnson after the season, as it believes there are several teams that are interested in acquiring his services. The NFL's trade deadline for this season passed in October.

Although the team has not yet released an official reason for the move, Johnson had openly complained in recent weeks about not getting enough passes thrown his way and his on-again, off-again relationship with Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden is well documented.

An eight-year veteran and the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 NFL draft, Johnson has 45 catches for 600 yards and three touchdowns this season -- his fourth in Tampa Bay after starting his career with the New York Jets. For his career, Johnson has 603 catches for 7,936 yards and 48 touchdowns.

seems like Gruden is being cruel and vindictive... which I like becuase Keyshawn has it coming. They still have to pay him but he can't play and they can't trade him until the end of the season (trade deadline has passed). They are reporting that he will be released at the end of the year. He wants nothing more than to be released right now and signed by some other team but now he has to sit on his butt for the rest of the season... way to go Gruden!

Anyone else see him ending up with his old pal Parcells in Dallas?

I bet that is what Keyshawn is thinking himself. But would you sit Glenn, Galloway, or Bryant and replace them with Keyshawn? And how about having Keyshawn aggravating your QB to throw him the damn ball? IMO Keyshawn would at best be a #4 receiver for the Cowboys. I don't even want him in Miami and the Dolphins are in need of serious receiver help (and a new coach, QB, O-Line .....)

Especially since Quincy already has enough problems throwing anyone the damn ball.

If Keyshawn will hurt the Cowboys, then I'm all for it. Along with them getting Jeff George to be the quarterback.

And re-sign Ryan Leaf as his backup? And then we can acquire Rick "YOU didn't know he was a Raider, either, did you!" Mirer to complete the trifecta!

I'm sure the Cowboys would like Johnson, but those are three pretty big egos that they already have playing receiver. Bryant would probably be the one sat down just due to seniority, despite his ability and talent being at least as good as Galloway or Glenn.

That, and I doubt the Cowboys have much cap room for Keyshawn, anyway. They did a pretty good job of screwing themselves over with the cap in the late 90's, and I've no idea if they've really recovered from that yet.

Wow

I'm really shocked, I guess Johnson is good when your winning, bad for you when you need stability when losing.

Anyone know of a similiar circumstance like this one, because I can't think of one.

The Eagles have plenty of cap room and no receivers... And the throw every pass to keyshawn thing might work out as there is no one else on the team competent enough to catch them.

From what I had been reading, PFW had a bit about it last week, Johnson was just not regarded as being as good as the other receivers on the team. Couple that with his bitching and his high salary and you have ample reason for him being released and/or traded. As per the deactivation, I would imagine that they have basically told him that his days with the club are finished but are holding on to him to try to trade him after the season.

Exactly. He would be the #4 guy on the Cowboys and u dont need that kind of distraction and attitude coming from your #4 receiver.
