I have a fictional league going and expanded my league by two last season. Being a complete dumbass, I did not generate a new schedule and the last two teams alphabetically in the 3rd division on the right side played no games. I can deal with that, finished the season and went onto the next season.
My problem now is that I tried to generate a schedule for this season during the Coach/Scout hiring period and crashed. I tried this several more times and continued to crash. I then thought I might need to finish the preseason first, so I clicked Finish All for the Coach/Scout period and am now on day 6/5 and can't proceed to the next step. I also continue to crash when attempting to generate a schedule. Is the league file completely screwed? Were some of the teams not properly initialized? I'd hate to have to junk this league, I was just getting attached to some of my players (even if that ungrateful fool Valentin Lieber passed up my $14,000,000 to play for another team). I have 256 MB RAM, 1 GHZ processor, several gigs free on my hard drive, and experienced no problems with my league prior to expansion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Do you have an odd number of teams in any league? If you do the scheduler will crash. You must have an even number of teams in each league (odd is ok for divisions but not leagues) for the scheduler to work.

Doh... I had 9 teams in each league. I had read somewhere that the schedule editor wouldn't work if there were an uneven number of teams in each league, I had taken that to mean that you couldn't have 14 in one and 16 in the other rather than not being able to have 9,11,13,15, etc.
I added more teams and was able to generate a schedule cleanly. Unfortunately, I still seem to be stuck at the Coach/Scout period at Day 6 out of 5. Is that a solvable problem? |

Did you follow the FAQ concerning adding teams to your league? If not that could be the problem.

I followed it up to the point where I should have generated a new schedule after creating the new teams. I didn't do that but was able to finish the season properly. The problems didn't pop up until the following season where I'm unable to move beyond the Coach signing period.

(you'll have to sign any free agents the first day of the season or something.. if you do this just create some background story that because of a strike your league had to have no free agency during the off season and missed its draft and spring training). You would need to go to the league setup screen and reset the league. This should get you to opening day and you'll be able to continue your league. Hope this helps. Steve, can you edit my Expansion Tutorial to put a not saying to Always back up prior to Expansion? Thanks. |

Thanks for the help, I'll have to decide if I want to do that. In the interests of not getting stuck there again, any idea why it went to day 6 of 5 rather than proceeding to Free Agency? I'm guessing it was related to the expansion, but it doesn't seem like the schedule would have been the main culprit.
