Drafting Historical Players
Hi,
I was wondering if it was possible to create the yearly draft from a random historical year. For instance, maybe I start a fictional league, but each year I want my draft to be based on historical players. 1960, one year, 1927 the next. Is there anyway to do this? Thanks, Mark |

There is, but it's going to be some work for you.
You could: (1) Edit the Lahman database and change players' start dates to the years that you wanted. For instance, if the next year of your league is going to be 1970, and you wanted to import the rookies from 1911 into that year, you'd change all the guys who debuted in 1911 to have a debut year of 1970. (2) Import the players one by one manually. |

Thanks...
That is a bit painful. Maybe I could start a league in 1900, and then create my own custom import databse for each yaer, copy say, they 1973 players into my own database and modify the debut date to 1901 - and continue that for each year. That way the import into the draft pool would still be automated . Mark |

You should realize that (I think) you can only draft the players as essentially major leaguers this way. For a long time, I tried to find a way to draft historical players as minor leaguers - i.e., with their talents but with their ratings still undeveloped. It can't be done, as far as I know. There is a database out there for it, but it didn't look right to me at all.

yeah it would be great if the draft would subtract a number of years from their age and push back their skill ratings and leave their talent intact.
