Red Sox and Clemens

Been drinking but here's a thought .... I grew up with the Rocket being my favorite player ... then the bastard put on pinstripes ... I've wanted him to retire forever so I could like him again.

But if I'm the Sox owner here is what I do .... I offer Roger 15 million a year to be player/coach .... give him a 3 year player/coach contract, as long as he feels like it he's the 5th starter, that way he gets what 18-22 starts a year and is still eligible for the playoffs. Also what player will question his work ethic??? maybe he can't manage but what better place to try than Boston. The only contract stipulation that I make is that he must enter the HOF as a Red Sox ... I can see it now who better to win our first WS since 1918 than Rocket the player/coach coming in relief of Pedro in the 8th .... any fool knows Pedro is done come the 8th right Grady?????

$15 mill? You're kidding, right? That's way, way too much.

Besides, I don't think most Boston fans would want him back, I know I don't.

Rocket wants out to see his family. Has nothing to do with his ability or his desire to coach. I'd be suprised if he doesn't pull a Nolan Ryan and spend all his time with his kids and coach them.

That is too much money, but I think most of Red Sox Nation would love to see Clemens retire as a Red Sox, even if only secretly. Of course this scenario will never happen anyway, but it's an interesting thought.

I'd like to see him in the Hall as a Sox player (if only to keep him from being in as a Yankee), but I don't want him back on the team.

Indeed. Of course, when he originally left Boson he wanted to play closer to home. I just never knew there was a shortcut to Texas through Toronto.

Technically, Toronto is closer to Texas than Boston is.

Also, for the comment on there being a stipulation in his contract that he wear a Red Sox hat...it's not his call. The Hall of Fame asks the player for their choice, but its ultimately their call. This was because of Dave Winfield's little auction for his HOF logo. The Hall made an example of it with Gary Carter who wanted to go in as a Met and the HOF said, "Youre going in as an Expo".

Guys like Clemens and Wade Boggs are upset by this (probably because both had bitter breakups with Boston and know they belong in the hall with a B on their caps)
