trading frequency

in what instances do you guys change trading frequency from normal to something else?

im setting up a fictional deadball style league with financials off (reserve clause) and wanted to have some extra player movement between teams via trades. i set the trade freq. to 'very high' but only get about 3-6 trades for the season. its not much different at the high setting, and maybe 1 or 2 trades less in the normal setting.

is trading freq. predicated on having financials on and more teams/players in the league (this lg. has 12 teams, about 600 players)

I have my league set at 'high' because I usually go through a whole season with 20-25 guys on the block and never get any offers at all. The computer does trade probably 30-40 times a season, but mostly at the deadline or with minor guys. It's fairly realistic except for their interactions with my team, and I know my team doesn't have many weaknesses listed, so I guess that's why.

I always play historical leagues and so I get the best results by setting the trade level to very low. You don't want the computer making a bunch of stupid trades and messing up the rosters. If there is a CPU team making a run at the playoffs then I will usually check their roster and help them acquire someone if they need to fill a hole, etc. I have had very good league results in terms of being realistic and balanced play using this setup. Plus it makes the game harder to win because the computer doesn't make you a bunch of offers but I guess some people don't like the game harder! ;-)

Cowboy has it dead on

See, if you start a league and have 25 men on each team even with trading Very High, there will be few trades.

However, once you get 10 years into it and there are 25 men in the Show, 20 men in AAA and 10-15 in AA and A...BOOM trade overload...

If you go with Very Low, the first 5 years you will see 3 or 4 trades per season, then you will get 6 to 10 from that point on, with mainly Utility guys switching back and forth.
