Simming ahead in an online league.
Do you sim ahead in online leagues?
Is it ethical?

Why is it wrong? Isn't it kind of like scouting?

Even though the results are never the same with 2 seperate sims, tendencies do occur. I feel that simming ahead a form of cheating.

It's an unfair adavantage.
Futhermore, some commishs have been caught simming and then resimming if the results don't meet there liking. When you sim ahead it leaves tell-tell signs which could result in you being accused of cheating. |

I'm not talking about commishes. Owners/GM's.

I really don't understand the point of simming ahead.... The results vary so much and the player development will be so different it really seems unnecessary... I really don't give a rats posterior if owners in my league run sims with the league file... I also have never run sims in the league I dont commish, just a waste of time... but if owners want to so what...

If it's an owner/gm, it shouldn't be considered cheating because its there, and the game offers it to you.
Should you feel down on yourself for doing it, yes.

I don't do it, but I don't see anything wrong with it. The outcome varies greatly(thanks to injuries, other GMs changing lineups/rotations, trades, player development differences, etc) and I don't see any advantage to doing it.
I dont have any issues with any of my GMs simming ahead (and I dont have the foggiest idea if any of them do).

This is the same as the contract extensions. Without using the password, owners would keep unzipping the file until they could get players to sign for the minimum they would accept. Did the game allow it? Yes. Is it right? Absolutely not. It takes no skill and there is no negotiation. |

I only sim ahead in AOBL when running tests, for instance for the post season, i exploited the matchups to reflect MLB Rules... I think this is the only time simming off of the regular league file is appropriate, because thats how to test editing issues such as scheduling, ect... But at no time should simming ahead be done for viewing developement, fan effectiveness, or financial evaluating... This is when it would be wrong, but I make defunct copies of the league file if I need to run a test... Another example of testing would be to view occurances after updating with a newly released patch.... But like previously stated, only commishes have access to sim when the league password is enabled, and by no means does an owner/GM have any need to do so...
You ask why, isnt it like scouting... Since when do scouts have time machines to view developement, I mean, do you think scouts would have given Todd Van Popple and second look if they knew the possibilities that actually occured, or what about Pat Kelly??? I dont honestly think that simming ahead would be a form of scouting. by the way, i voted no

i did it by accident in spring training once in WTS (when I was new to OOTP), but wouldn't do it again.. I agree that it is an unfair advantage.
