Will this be possible??
Hi Guys,
I've been looking at the posts about the new game coming soon, and I'm not sure whether I will be able to do what I want to do or not. I know that career play is out, and that's fine, but I was wondering whether I would be able to create a universe of lets say 30 randomly generated fictional boxers and let them fight it out over titles with rankings and fight histories being kept for all of them. Will this be possible??? I've been following all the posts for some time and I think i've gotten all turned around as to the features in this version. Oh by randomly generated fictional fighters, I know there's a feature where you can create fighters, I was wondering whether their ratings can be randomly generated (and before anyone gets worked up, I know it's not OOTP for boxing and it won't have retirements etc. I'm happy to manually maintain that stuff for now) I kinda prefer fictional names in my career sim gaming as that way I have no preconceived ideas about their abilities. I would consider buying the game to simulate with real boxers, but if the above was possible it would be a definite purchase. Thanks for your help in advance. Mark |

If TBCB is anything like the previous versions, you won't be able to ask the program to create a fighter with random ratings. You will have to tell the program what general category you want the ratings to fall into. For example, you can tell the program you want the fighter to have fair boxing skills, good power, fair defense, excellent stamina and a bad chin and it will create a fighter for you with those characteristics. You can use this method to create as many fictional fighters as you want.

I'll have to get back to you on this because it's still a matter of debate. I'm inclined to think that something of this type will be included. However, let me get you a definitive answer on what we are going to do. If I don't respond again to this Thread, job my constantly failing memory with another post.

You heard the answer from the one who knows best. I think it would be great if TBCB could create random fighters.

Random Fighters
You can create your own fictional fighters now with TF2K1. Easiest way would be to create a "Fictional" directory in the game, then go to the Archive or Modern directories select a fighter who has a style you like and copy him into your new directory. Once there, change his name to whatever you want. Presto! One new fictional fighter.

If there is a mechanism for creating a base fighter, and editing his ratings, then that would work very well.
Simply assign a percentage chance for each rating, and get two ten-sided dice. For example. CF (Control Factor), roll percentage dice. 1-10 = 7 11-40 = 8 41-75 = 9 76-90 = 10 91-98 = 11 99-100 = 12 Do this for the rest of the ratings, and its all good, and easy. Something that would take months to program could easily be done by all of us....and even enhancing the gameplay, as you "roll" your fighters. This is a ton of fun in fantasy role playing games, such as Dungeons and Dragons, why not do the same for this, too? |

dsvitak - that's pretty much what I had in mind if the fighters couldn't be created, but I know in boxing that not all factors are created equal, so I'd want to come up with a system that created boxers that "made sense", for the lack of a better term, and reflect the diversity of talent that you would expect.
cap - I also was wondering about this sort of work around today, so thanks for confirming that I would be able to do that. I really didn't want to alter Frazier's name only to find that I couldn't use him in any historical sims that I wanted to do later. Thanks for the responses guys, hopefully Jim can confirm whether it will be handled by TB soon Mark Last edited by Gunsmoke; 10-20-2003 at 04:08 AM. |

dsvitak, this is an excellent idea. I've been working on a Excel sheet I came up with for randomly and quickly creating fighters. It even chooses randomly. I'm going to implement this method you're talking about and see how that works. So far it is working pretty good without it, but I think your method would improve it. This sheet also randomly picks fighters style. It will pick every rating that is shown on the "fighter record" screenshots. Anyone want to check it out, let me know. Like I said, I'm still working on it, but you can try it out and maybe give me suggestions.

I meant it chooses race randomly. I only have about 12 races to choose from because I don't know what races are included in the game.

I had an old Avalon Hill game, Gladiator.
I developed an ELABORATE system for generating fighters...it worked quite well. Another thing you can do is to use the overall ratings of the fighters, coupled with their won-loss record, to generate the purse for the next match. |

To av0930,
You say you have "only" 12 races to choose from. What do you have other than Black, White, Hispanic, Asian and maybe American Indian? I can't think of anything else except maybe; Dwarf, Orcan, Elfin, Vulcan and Martian. I'm curious what are the 12?

Polynesian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Spanish, Mexican, Dominican (you can't lump all Asians or Hispanics together Dempson).
Then you could also have 'mulatto' (mix of black and white). |

That's what race means. That's exactly the purpose of the terms Hispanic and Asian. Cuban, PR's, Dominican's are all Hispanics and Japanese, Chinese and Thia's are Asians. Just like White Americans, English, German or Italians are White or Caucasian. The category is not nationality but race.

I assume that, if you have an actual graphic of the fighter you want to use, you can incorporate that into the progam instead of using the generic head shot. |
