A Tribute To My First League...
So my first season has come and gone in OOTP and for some reason with my players.dat being set to 0kb, so has my first league. I have learned alot during my first season and it has hopefully helped me draft a better team for my new league, but before I move forward I want to take a look back and remember my first league that will always have a special place in my heart. I am finding this oh so very heard, and when my fiancee looks at me and says "it's only a game" she doesn't understand this is worse then a breakup you have no choice over(OK, but not her tho). It feels like someone has torn my heart out and stomped all over it!
And now just a moment of silence as I remember some of my special players. Not much needs to be said about my first pick RF, R. Hadnot, he lived up to his hype with 30 Hr's, 113 RBI's and a .317 average. He was a great contibutor and was destined for the HOF. William Bilsilki was my aging center fielder, so he ratings dropped rather quickly through the season but his stats and heart were incredible. My shortstop was supposed to be my great lead off hitter, but after three months of misery, I dropped him to 9th where he went on fire finishing the season with almost 20 Hr's and 70RBI. I can't help but wonder what next season would have brought. My #1 SP, O. Kim was very solid with his 3.00 ERA and 18 wins, I know a Cy Young was destined for him down the line. He was a true anchor of my staff. I would like to remember one last player, a very special middle reliever. It didn't matter at the end of April his E.R.A. was in the 20.00's, he shut down the league the rest of the year and by seasons end lowered his E.R.A. into the 2.00's. Ronald Brassfield, we'll remember you too. I now find myself asking if I'll ever be able to learn another team, For it seems like only yesterday I was wondering if I would ever be able to learn a fictional computer baseball team, and now not only did I learn them, they became me. I will try to put this team behind me and move forward now. Thanks for listening, TM |

There is no such thing as a "Special Middle Reliever"

Thomamon, sorry to hear about your league getting reset. You must have enjoyed your league to be able to remember all that stuff.
I learn to love my teams. L-o-v-e. Together forever. Sounds like you did the same. |

I've been playing OOTP since V2 and I still get just as excited. This is a fantastic game and it's not repetitive, so every league I start is just as exciting as the previous. The day comes that I stop getting excited is the day I'll quit playing.........heaven forbid that day ever comes. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Thomamon, don't worry. Now that you're hooked, you're in some wonderful fun. One of the great things about OOTP is that the excitment never stops. |

I especially get emotionally attached to the kids who come up through my farm system.
In the 4th year of my solo league, several players I drafted are just now arriving on my ML roster. I drafted Jesse Mellor as a closer in 2004. He skyrocketed through the minors. In the middle of 2006 he joined the big club with "8's" across the board in ratings. He dominated in AAA as a closer. I'm breaking him in as my set-up guy in 2006 but have already decided to trade my existing closer in the off-season and hand Jesse the job for 2007. Like the rest of you, I'm addicted to this game! |

What is the default league in OOTP4? Was that 2001? or 2002? Whatever it was i'm in 2038 right now. I play our every game but I only have a 108 game season. Still a long time. I pray to God nothing bad happens to it. And it is ever changing. Just this season i'v noticed a player of mine that has never gone into a slump. 10 years and I cannot remember him being in a slump. He has led my team in HR's for the past 4 years with a "6" rating. He is a 3 star player. Average ratings. Bats about .350 for the last 3 years and has a lifetime of .307 I would not trade him for anyone in the league. Just goes to show how strange and ever changing this game can be no matter how long you play.

I am starting to get into my new league, but it's slower then my first one. I guess I kind of feel resentment towards these players.
In my first league I had a short stop who looked to be an awesome prospect, his name was Caleb Roy. Guess I'll never see how he turns out now, will I? LOL This just teaches one thing, you should always back up your league so this doesn't happen to you. Makes me wish in the new version there will be automatic backup of your league or at least an option for it. TM
