Question for Jim
When is the new game coming........... no just kidding. What I wanted to ask you is if I might get permission to put the TF2001 game on my server space for downloading. I get several requests per week on my website wondering where they can buy the game. When the new one comes out this game is sure to gather dust, so please let me have permission to distribute to the hungry masses.

Cube,
There are still some being sold via EBAY at a greatly discounted price. We sold a quantity outright to a source. Once they are gone, not only will we be thrilled to have you do what you suggest, but also very grateful. I'll check and see - it's possible you might be able to do what you want anyhow. I'll get back to you! Jim |

Two things come to mind about your idea. Is this fair to the people who put their hands in their pockets and paid hard earned money for Title Fight 2001, and again also for the archive disk. For others now to get everything FREE Plus it could also affect SALES OF THE NEW GAME. Hell why not wait a while and perhaps i will be able to get this new game for nothing in the future. Cube I know you mean well, but just give it some thought, there are always people in this world who want something for nothing my friend. To even advertise the old Title Fight 2001 game as a cheap buy would be a bad move i think. It is history now, all efforts and adverts must be to plug the new game. Just my thoughts Cheers Cube Danny

Danny,
Glad to see you back on the forum, now that the game is so close to coming out. I totally agree with your comments about making the old game available for free. I believe it would hurt the sales of TBCB, which would be a BAD THING. What people ought to realize is that TBCB is going to be so much better than any of the previous versions that it would be a complete waste of a person's time and hard drive space to play any of the previous versions when, for a mere $35 they can buy the ultimate boxing simulation. |

Hawke,
The game has been for out nearly 3 years now and the last time anyone put their hands in their pockets for this one was about a year ago. In the software game, the shelf life of a game is rarely more than 2 years. Once the new game comes out not many people will be playing TF2001 anyway. The 2001 version of OOTP is now free on the OOTP website and OOTP 5 flies off the shelf anyway. I feel doing this will actually help promote the new game, by letting people who might never have seen a Trunzo boxing sim before try out the basic game engine while seeing references to the new version, and how much better it is on the link page. I've spent HOURS and HOURS tirelessly promoting my favorite boxing sim with the Yahoo group and my own website and would never do anything to hurt the Trunzo's enterprise. I waited until the Archive 2 set became abandonware and asked Jim personally for permission to distribute it which I received. If you wish to wait and get the new game maybe free in 3 years, well that's your choice but at the same time if the new role playing version is out by 2006, who will be playing TBCB 2003 then? Thanks for caring so much about Jim and his brilliant boxing sim Danny. Cube

Not sure your correct about it being a year since anyone bought Title Fight 2001. In fact i know two members of this forum who purchased the old game about 6 weeks ago LOL In regard to my statement about me waiting and getting the game for nothing for free in the future. I was just making a point, sort of tongue in cheek remark. To put the record straight Cube, in fact when the game first came out i bought 3 copy's of Title fight 2001 and also the archive 2 disk which i still have. Still i take your points, up to the developers which route to take, main thing is the game sells well. In the end we are both on the same team Cheers Danny |

Great to see you posting again, we had some good debates in the past with some of the others i recall. Yes its a while since i bored everyone with my postings about the old timers and how it used to be LOL I bought a new computer, had it two days, power pack blew. Then i waited over a week for new power pack. Got it back, then more problems so back it went again. Main thing is, it seems ok now. ( fingers crossed ) Danny

Jim I'm still waiting for the final word, so I might make this brilliant game available to those that can't get it at any price.

If the option doesn't exist to purchase the game from anywhere other than resales then it should be considered for freeware availability. Hell, look at OOTP2, which is now available for free despite having several versions still being purchased on a daily basis. The free version of a three-year-old product could only help the sales of the new version soon to be released. Others will use it as a type of playable demo that will only wet their appetites for more and better of the series. Hence, they will in turn eventually fork out the money for the upgrade.
In regards to those that have purchased the game already and may not consider others getting the game for free now. Well, first of all you have had three years of enjoyment already and shouldn't compare your value to someone else’s. Secondly, now would be the time to list that puppy on ebay if you think that recouping some money would be the best thing to do. Otherwise, continue to enjoy what you have and consider yourselves lucky to have owned an excellent boxing sim for as long as you have. Just my thoughts on the subject. |

Boxing today is not a major sport so from a Company point of view you need every sale you can get.
The real boxing fan will buy the NEW GAME regardless i feel. So i would see it as trying to sell the NEW GAME to the more casual fan By giving the old TITLE FIGHT away free, what in affect you are doing is completing against yourself. I myself would fear that the casual fan given the choice would be quite content with a boxing game for nothing rather then lay out 35$ or so for another boxing game. Can with all respect meant a small software company afford to complete against itself. Lets be honest here TITLE FIGHT 2001 was, and still is a pretty good game. Again the NEW GAME might be an improvement but its still at heart in spite of the bells and whistles a boxing simulation. To sum up 35$ for the NEW GAME Or TITLE FIGHT 2001 free take your pick casual fan. The above does not make good business sense to me anyway.

As a case in point one would only need to look as far as 400 Software Studios and how they just released Extreme Warfare Revenge at no cost while they put the finishing touches on the newest version that is due out soon. I for one can say that the newer version is now a possibility for myself to purchase since having played the free version with some intensity. Without the "primer" I would have never considered shelling out money for either.
BTW, 400 Software Studios is probably a smaller company in most respects than OOTP Developments since OOTP goes back 5 versions by now. Once again, just my own personal thoughts on the subject. |

Hawke is right on this one. OOTP is a major success already, TBCB is just trying to get its foot in the door. If even a few gamers decide to take the free download and save the $35 it will be a blow to the success of the new game. Initial sales will be a challenge already due to delays, not putting it in stores and boxing's current popularity. The free download of TF2001 may or may not have a major impact but why add more hurdles? Some will download it, be satisfied with that version and pass on the new one. I'm sure Jim wants everyone to buy the new game.

Once TBCB has been released for a while and has established itself in the market, a free download of TF 2001 would be awesome.

Even if Cube offered TF 2001, I still wouldn't download it, and no I don't own TF2001.
