Thrashers C Snyder dies of injuries from car accident

ATLANTA (Ticker) - Atlanta Thrashers center Dan Snyder died Sunday night, six days after suffering massive brain injuries in a one-car accident involving All-Star teammate Dany Heatley.

Snyder, 25, never regained consciousness after the accident, which occurred late Monday night in Atlanta's Buckhead section. According to police, he was a passenger in a Ferrari driven by Heatley that struck a pillar near a condominium complex.

Snyder underwent surgery late Monday night at Grady Memorial Hospital to repair a depressed skull fracture.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Dan Snyder," the Thrashers said in a statement. "Dan was a teammate and friend to all of us. We feel a tremendous amount of pain as an organization and extend our deepest sympathies to his family."

I am not a huge NHL fan, but it is very sad to see someone cut down in the prime of their life with such a prmising career ahead of him. It's going to be a tough year for the Atlanta Thrashers, and an even tougher year for Dany Heatley.

It will be a tough rest of his life. This reminds me alot of the boat accident involving the Cleveland Indians several years ago.

That it does. I feel bad form Heatley even if he never gets convicted for any of the charges that he has against him now. I can't imagine having to live with that on my consience.

That does suck. It'll suck to be Heatley even worse with that hanging over him the rest of his life.

Or, maybe it will suck more being Snyder's parents having to bury their son and all.

I have no compassion for Heatley whatsoever. He made his bed and can rot in it for all I care.

i was very upset to hear this, i was really hoping he would pull through. I can't imagine how Heatley is feeling right now, i don't think i'd even be able to step back out on the ice ever again.

Oh well, we'll have to wait and see
