Team Cash Max
I'm looking to start a solo 2003 MLB game. I want to set the Team Cash Max to a # that would best represent MLBs Collective Bargaining Agreement signed earlier this season.
Just out of curiosity what was the old agreement with MLB? What would I have to set the Team Cash Max at to represent what it was in real life for the start of the 2003 season? Thanks so much. This is a great community and I always find the answers to what I'm looking for. It shouldn't be long until this thread gives me the same results! |

So, you're saying that I should try and set the Team Cash Max at 117M? I'm sort of confused.

Well, there is a max that a team can "keep" and the rest goes into a pool that is distributed amongst the small market teams right?

I think you are speaking of revenue sharing. However, there is no cash max. Just ask the Yankees.

Revenue sharing determines how much a team has to pay into a pool to be divided up amongst the poor (welfare) . But there is nothing telling a team how much they can "keep".

yeah, if you want yankee-esk dynasties possible where bench players are getting paid 6-7 mil a year...this is how I do it, I like trying to be like the yankees, no matter how much I hate them

Your call. But I set it very high with no cap and give the big market teams (Yankees,Boston Atlanta, etc.) Huge TV contracts so I have a harder time competing with them in the free agent pool. Setting the cash high ($500,000,000 or so) allows me to save up in the lean years and resign my key players before they hit the market. Again it's your call.

I like it low ($15 mill) for the sake of competitiveness

well since I've only played one or two dynasties past year 10 or so with no cap or cash reserve max I've never really gotten to my team to be like the yankees, I'm sure if I do it a few times I'll get bored of it, but for right now its a fun and interesting challenge

There is a huge downside with no or high cap limits. Some AI teams would pile up money as you do, and waste those money on some stupid 30mil a year contracts.

No, it's not like the evil empire. With no cap limit, you'd see teams with 50 mil income sign players to 30mil a year.

So what should I set this at to reflect REAL MLB baseball? I don't care how silly it seems as long as it's real that's what I'm going for. MLB is screwy with things that involve money and it wont bother me either way.
Thanks for such good insight guys. |

To have the "feel" right, I think you need cash caps in the 5mil~20mil range. It's not there in real life, but AI handled it well. They'll balance the book, and they won't have too much cash in hand to give out moronic contracts.
Come to think about it, I've not heard about teams saving money for future spending. So in a sense, low cash cap is realistic.

Are you saying the Yankees have no moronic contracts?
