Start league now or wait until next year?
After playing exclusively an solo MLB-based league through so many seasons, I recently came up with an idea for a fictional custom league I liked - use the small towns around where I grew up and played against in junior high and high school. So I determined a structure, made up logos, picked out stadiums... It is almost to the point where it is ready to be put together, and played.
But I am torn between starting it soon with 5.13 or waiting until OOTP6 next year. The more I think about it the more I am pulled in both directions. So I am asking for opinions of other people. Here is what I am weighing: I want to bring my creation to life. Who knows what could happen before next year. However... It is late in the year and my interest will wane during winter. There could be significant changes and advances with OOTP6. For example, small town league with small town financials would be good. Just yesterday I began testing out the great Cato History. How seemless would a transition from 5 to 6 be with a game upgrade and assuming changes to utilities? Moving my old league from 4 to 5 wasn't awful or anything, but there were some changes and I would prefer no transition (which is why I may wait) at least early in the league. The thing is I want to do it right the first time. I don't like redoing stuff like starting a new league with MLB rosters each year, and I don't want to do a practice run with the league and start over next year. Any opinions, ideas, etc? |

Why not do both? If you get tired/uninterested in ootp over the winter you can always start over again when 6 comes out.
That way your not depriving yourself of ootp just for the sake of waiting for ootp6. And hey you might even learn a few things about your league that you will want to change when you start fresh in ootp6.

He's got a point, there will definitely be things you want to change for your league, so I would go ahead and do it. There might be a way to import your OOTP5 league to OOTP6 anyway.

There is plenty of time left to play with until OOTP6 comes out. I would start a new league now and maybe you'll want to continue it with OOTP6.

Threads like this never make any sense to me. Can't people make decisions for themselves anymore? If you want to wait then wait and if you want to play then play...who cares!!!!

Personally, I'm waiting. For me, there are a number of things coming out with OOTP6 that will make a long-term league much more enjoyable. Things like player development, the mechanics behind strikeouts, player creation, and (HOPEFULLY) the ability to control stolen base levels for leagues.
Until then, I'm just messing around with various things to see how I want to run my OOTP6 league. Expansion drafts, manually creating players, making player photos with FaceGen, etc. |
