Overtime Rules
Some one explain to me, how the hell a football game can end in a tie? This isn't pop warner football. If after 15 minutes of overtime, the game is still tied, PLAY ANOTHER 15 MINUTES!

Did somebody tie today?
I think they should take a hint from college football and give each team equal possessions, and just go until someone doesn't score. Don't start them off with good field position - keep kickoffs and punts and stuff like that, but just give them equal possessions. Also, pass interference should be 15 yards and a 1st down, not from the spot of the foul.

![]() I reckon games should end in a tie before OT, let alone after one. Both teams have played hard and fought out a draw - a 15 minute victory in OT holds the same value as a 60 minute W over the course of a whole game. Sounds crazy?

Everyone wants to change to another format but I think staying the same is the best bet. Games won't last forever like some of the college football marathons. Most importantly ties aren't a problem, once every 2-3 seasons there will be a tie.

NFL Europe's got some useless new rules, that never make a difference apart from games involving the Claymores.
Grr....monarchs winning with a 4 point field goal....grrr.... Hold on, that was nine years ago. |

Never really watched NFL Europe but I do know that the Bills cut the NFL Europe MVP, Ken Simonton.

Hey, he was on the Claymores this season! Rushed for 871 yards in 12 games, with 8 TDs (and 2 recieving) - average of 5.4 yards per carry! Did some returns too - he was a class act.
Oh well...at least it means he might be back next year. Incidentally, in the game with the 4 point Field Goal, the QB for the monarchs was .... Brad Johnson. |

Don't forget Kitna and Holcomb. They started for the Barcelona Dragons consecutive years. Didn't help them much.

NFL Europe is serving it's purpose tho' - to develop players. Now if those across the pond would get off that soccer thing - there would be some real progress in the world. |

The Players Union will never let them just keep playing. I also recall once seeing a stat on the record of teams the week after playing an overtime game and I recall the win % was somewhere around 25%. I wish I could find that again, but it clearly showed playing overtime really does carry over into the next week.
My own idea would be to play long enough for each team to have at least one possession. So one teams wins the toss, takes the kickoff and say they score a TD. Then they have to kickoff to the other team. If they score a TD too then the game becomes sudden death from that point on. Say the team that wins the toss does nothing and punts or has a turnover, then the game becomes sudden death from that point on. If the team that wins the toss gets a FG, then the other team can get a FG to send the game into sudden death or if they get a TD they win. If they get no score they lose. The second possession begins the instant a ball is kicked off or punted or turned over.

Personally I think going to an American Gladiators-style competition involving the tied teams instead of overtime would be best for all parties involved.

I say we have each team's respective cheerleaders battle it out in a mud ring, with the winning team's cheerleaders being the team that wins the game in OT.
Winning can comprise the following : 1) Cheerleader gets top ripped off, automatic loss for her team 2) Cheerleader gets bottom ripped off, automatic loss for her team 3) Either both tops or bottoms come off at the same time, 2 new cheerleaders go into the mud ring to continue the battle. With this type of OT system, everyone wins ! PS : I like the NFL's OT rules as they are now.
