UBL Playoffs - 1929
Battle of the Champions
The 1929 season has been a revival of sorts for the Redlegs after the "Disaster of 1928". After a World Series title in 1927 the Redlegs fell to 6th place in the Landis League and watched as the LA Angels took home the title. Thanks to the new divisional alignment these two champions will meet in the Landis League Championship Series. The Redlegs stormed out of the gate and never looked back. Led by their talented starting rotation which includes three 20 game winners, (Pipgras, Lucas, Wahlberg) Cinci was able to secure the best record in the Landis League. Tonight will start a true test for the team. Addie Joss Award hopeful Red Lucas will get the ball in game one, most likely against Jing Johnson. Lucas was instrumental in the Redlegs success this season although a bad stretch to end the regular season gave Redlegs management hesitation about where to start him for the playoffs. Said GM Ubert, "Red was spectaular for us this season and to not give him the ball in game one would be very disrespectful." A last minute change for the lineup features 1st Rd pick Sammy Byrd sitting on the bench for the first round. Byrd's inconsistent play and the emergence of Buzz Artlett led to this decision. Buzz brings veteran leadership and the ability to switch hit which should help negate the strong bullpen that LA features. The Landis League has held the crown for the first 2 seasons. One of these 2 teams will repeat, but which one!

Well, after 4 games, the Redlegs and Angels are knotted at two apiece in the Landis League Championship.
The BIG story is NY Yankee star pitcher, Jake Miller. Big Jake was 76-27 in 3 UBL seasons and got the nod in Game 1 of the Yanks/Tigers Foster League Championship. Riding his 32 win season, Miller pitched a gem, but with 2 outs in the 9th inning, he tore an elbow ligament and his career was over, just like that! The Yanks won the game and Miller was named POG, but they slumped and trail the Tigers 3-1 after the first four games of the Foster League Championship. Can the Babe and Iron Horse hold the Yanks together and mount a comeback or will this year end as the first two UBL seasons--with a disappointing departure by the Yankees in the playoffs. What will Angus have to say about this? |
