Graphics: High Heat

Game Play: High Heat

Control of Team: OOTP

Control of Front Office: OOTP

Tech Support: OOTP

Fun to Play: OOTP

Online Leagues: OOTP

Return Play: OOTP

Forums: OOTP

Game: OOTP

Seriously you can deal with OOTP as a subsitute for High Heat with more satisfaction than High Heat. High Heat is fun to play when you want to play each game or take control of your favorite hitter and hit a monster homerun, but it is boring after a while. I can only play one game at a time. I can sim a whole season in one sitting of OOTP. I asked questions on the High Heat forum two months ago and still have not had it answered. Every question I have ever asked on OOTP was answered within 20 minutes. OOTP is the best game to have, even if it is Text Based. The support and return play more than make up for the lack of graphics. Don't get me wrong OOTP is not in the dark ages of graphics. I will never buy High Heat Baseball again. I will play Sammy Sosa High Heat 2001 for the rest of my life, because that was when the game was the best. Every year High Heat gets worse. If High Heat had OOTP's team control, it would be the best Game of ALL TIME. I would never leave my computer.

I used to play high heat exclusively and used it for its career mode, basically until a found ootp. I still pick up high heat for the playstation but thats because its the most realistic graphic baseball simulator.

In my opinion, HH02 is the best in the High Heat series. To say that one game or the other is "boring" is purely a personal opinion. I never get bored of High Heat, because I love watching the semi-realistic action on the field, and the feeling that I'm the catlyst for that action ... is cool. Now, when I want more statistics and more control over roster movement, I switch to OOTP. Or if I want to match up teams from different years.

In other words, there is no answer to this question. It's just a personal preference, and that changes for me on a daily basis.

HH was a great idea that "to this point" was allowed to waste away. Very little in the way of "solid" improvements have been made to the game since 2001/2002.

I'm a HH refugee, like many here. OOTP is incomparably better. For a good arcade-type BB game, I recommend Pete Rose Baseball from about 1988.

Well, OOTP is good and High Heat isn't.

But seriously, I've only played HH2004, which isn't good at all, so in my case, the statement I made above is true.

I purchased highheat up to the HH2K2 series and quickly returned to Sammy Sosa High Heat 2K1. I still love it, but find little time to actaully get into it like I used to. I used to have much more time where I could sit there and watch a whole game play out. Actually, I didn't like being locked in that way. Of course, the save feature was useful. But, I really liked the way FPS Baseball did it where you could sim or start a game, sim a few innings or even sim the rest of the game. That was a fantastic option if you suddenly ran out of time, or the game got out of hand, or you just felt like moving on. This feature is also built into OOTP. It fits my time constraints much better than being forced to either sim or watch/play a whole game. I can play OOTP as quickly or as slowly as I want. That's a big plus.

I also got High Heat 2002 just before I discovered OOTP. I liked it at the time, Nice graphics and sound (although the announcer gets repetitive after a while). Not very accurate simming results but quite fun to play games out with. OOTP blows it away in my opinion. There is no ability to sim historically in HH (unless you want to hand create each player) and There is no comparison in that OOTP feels much more like real baseball in the sim results and the player development, so if you want an arcade game with some limited simming capabilities HH is good, otherwise OOTP is far superior in my opinion.

HH2002 had a terrible swing animation. I couldn't stand it and had to erase it. HH2001 had fewer frames but was such a classy swing.

I'd fire up old HH2001 now and again, but my computer has decided to boot me to the desktop instead of loading the game. I must have a conflict, maybe with my cable modem.

I believe that HH02 does not work with XP, but 2003 does.

As far as being outdated, 1) baseballsimcentral.com has current roster updates; and 2) I play old-time teams most of the time, so I dont' care about updates!

High Heat was good up thru SSHH2k1, which was the best of the bunch in my opinion. Although the graphics were still on the cartoony side, the animations were top notch. Of course, having a really good .ini file helped alot. I still play this one on my Win98 setup when I want to "watch" a game play out (I never play in arcade mode though. Just 1 pitch manager mode). I hated HH2002, mostly because of the robot type players and havent played anything later than that.

OOTP is the best for playing out seasons and whatnot

I bought and played High Heat from the beginning up to the Sammy Sosa version (can't remember which year that was 01 or 02?). I was looking for a game that was a updated replacement to FPS Baseball Pro '96 and '98 which was a replacement for Earl Weaver baseball back in the 80's.

It was solid though I never got into it as much as I did with Baseball Pro or EWB. I think because playing "in" the games was too easy to hit for average and I didn't find the simming results very good statistically.

The big key for me was could I go with a text-based game with no animation. I wasn't sure...hell even Micro League Baseball had minor animation of the plays in it on the C-64.

I bought OOTP 3....and it didn't knock me out of my chair right off the bat..but kept me curious and interested though....about 11 hours later (after installing the license) I had played each of my games for the first 45 games or so....lol....and I've been hooked ever since.

I feel that if you like sports games and lean towards stats..or front office stuff....you will be hooked. I was hooked for the history a particular league will develop. Thats what I like about real baseball. Looking back at the legends....the dynasties...looking at the great players who never got to play for winner. OOTP fits that bill. The game has gotten better...and instead of being arrogant and ingnoring their fans and customers...the team for OOTP admits its a "work in progress".

If you know you can live with out the animations of a arcade like title like High Heat...you can't go wrong with OOTP.

OOTP simulates baseball statistically.

High Heat simulates baseball graphically.

Two different games and can't be compared.

You really cannot compare High Heat to OOTP5. Baseball Mogul, Strat O Matic and my personal favorite ( prior to OOTP of course ) Season Ticket are more comparable. Still none really compares if you know what I mean. Buy OOTP5 now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
