Birthdates and CSV imports

While working with my league in the mid-1950s, I am running into trouble using Excel on my general players CSV file.

I was editing things like place of birth and names of new ammies. However, when I import the files back into the game, suddenly many players are more than 1000 years old.

Reading through the documentation, I see that this is because of the way Excel handles dates -- that some two digit year dates are assumed to be 19xx and some 20xx.

I tried to handle this by changing the cell format in Excel to make the date read August 20, 1940 and August 20, 1920 rather than 8/20/40 and 8/20/20. However, importing this into CSV file then causes OOTP to crash.

How do other people handle this?
