Ratings stars
I am long-time fan of OOTP, and recently upgraded to OOTP5. I love the assignment of stars to both established players and strs, and, used with certain cautions, I find they really help me find the players I am looking for in large pools. But here are two questions.
First, do you have examples from your own experience of really nice surprises -- you know, a guy who had 2 stars when drafted as an amateur who turns out to be a really good starter? I haven't seen this happen myself, just 4- and 5-star disappointments, as of course there should be. Second, and this really belongs to the OOTP wish list, could the star system be modified to allow us to input our own preferences? As long as I have played it, OOTP has alswys placed a big premium on guys who hit for power, but I prefer speed-defense-contact people. It would be nice to make the ratings do that. |

That's an interesting request, and not one I've seen before. It's a good idea, but I don't know if Markus would find it to be a programming nightmare or not.

I have 2 star guys turn into 4 star guys with a couple of talent raises. Sometimes I'll see a great prospect in the top 100 list and think where did he come from? After checking his player card and seeing he was drafted in the 4th round of an amateur draft it becomes obvious he had talent raises and was a draft steal!

I currently have a guy in AA who's listed as a 5-star prospect, but was drafted as a 2.5 star guy a few years back... He's made great strides in his hitting talent, although he's still is a terrible fielder, so I'll likely use him for trade fodder (he's a middle-infielder). No idea whether he'll pan out though..

...sorry about the double posting...
Anyway, I may give that a go. He's got an E at 2B, so maybe he'll do better over at first...can't do much worse! I tend to be a stickler for range though, even at 1B. I'd really like to get someone who has at least a range of C.. -Brandiles |

I ended up trading that player to Anaheim for a good looking young catcher and a couple of minor league pitchers. He had a range of E at 1B as well, so I decided to boot him. I will keep checking on him though to see how he does.
