What makes up a successful league?

A retorical question indeed!

One of our league GM's asked me tonight, if our league was hyped on various OOTP message boards. My answer was "not really" and I also told him, it really doesn't need to be. Why? Well because we have quitely assembled a solid team of GM's over the past year (6 sim seasons), weeding out GM's who would disappear or would be just plain inactive.

I encouraged taking on newbie GM's which has worked out very well. Now we have a excellent group of guys who are active traders, messageboard posters and article writers. Over the past year we have added utilities such as Coranto and BOSI and I am now in the works of creating team history pages.

No one ever complains and everyone is great to chat with. I don't police the number of times people post, how many times they submit lineups. As long as they take care of their roster, and I mean contract extensions, sign FA's here and there, and participate somewhat in the Ammy draft. I believe that is the key to our success, and maybe a model in which other startup leagues can follow.

I'm pretty sure every league does the same thing and has similar goals

besides the obvious that is always stated :

fair, good rules, good owners, active owners etc.

how about consistent sim schedule?

I try to keep on a very simple and consistent schedule with my league, only occassionaly skipping sims due to travel.

One of things owners love is when ALL sims are on schedule, and the website/file/BOSI is up within 2 hours after the sim...

Bill Simmons: Whoops - I didn't mean to post that. Really, I didn't.

I think another mark of a good league is owners who know their commissioner is a human being with a life away from the computer and that sometimes delays happen...

Having Matt Skutley as commissioner is also a pretty good plan.
