Question Back in the Dugout

Dear Forum Members

I am a long-time fan of STB who just learned that Infogrames dropped STB from its product list. No big deal -- I'll overcome my aversion to e-licenses and buy OOTP5 in the next few days, unless someone advises me that OOTP6 is on the way soonish.

But I have a question. One of the FEW complaints I had about earlier versions of the game (the equivalents of OOTP4 and 3) is how it handled players' fielding abilities. First, time in the minors and spring training never apeared to have any beneficial effect on a player's FA, which struck me as pretty unrealistic. Second, ML experience didn't help players become more sure-handed either, and worse still, players often suffered mysterious and rather signficiant losses to their FA's and ranges from one year to the next. This struck me too as unrealistic. Players can lose range as they age, of course, and some may lose FA too, but many retain their FA and some become BETTER fielders over the course of their careers. What's the status of fielding in OOTP5 then?

Anyway, it's a fantastic game. Been playing a career league of my own making for 15 seasons now, and it never ceases being a challenge to keep my team competitive.

Thanks

The fielding is still an area of the game that needs a lot of work, and you could find a lot of discussion about it here if you did a search or anything. In particular, Gastric ReFlux proposed an interesting complete overhaul of the system. I think OOTP6 will see it changed.

BTW, OOTP6 should be out early next year, so you might as well get OOTP5.
