double developments?
has anybody seen a player go up 2 talents in 1 category in only 1 sim? if so how common is this? i didnt know this was possible until pannone went from AAGA to GABB in 1 sim, an increase of 2 talents in strikeouts.

It happens, though not very often.

Has the newest patch made these more common?..I seem to see them a lot more now.

Remember that "Talent" doesn't efect "Performance". It only opens up the possibility that "Ratings" can change. Sometimes the Talent changes never show up as a ratings change - and sometimes your "2 up" improvement might get wiped out in a month with further changes.
It's a very dynamic system. |

I was just about to post a new thread on this very issue.
Quote:
Because Getting/Avoiding Strikeouts is automatically tied to Hitting for Average/Avoiding Hits (i.e. a talent bump in Getting/Avoiding Hits means a talent bump in Getting/Avoiding Strikeouts) plus Getting/Avoiding Strikeouts can also be bumped independently of Getting/Avoiding Hits, it seems much more often than not I will see a double increase in the strikeout category when a player gets a talent bump in Getting/Avoiding Hits. Approximately half of the players in the majors in my league have Brilliant Talent in Getting/Avoiding Strikeouts, and the corresponding ratings (8+) in that category. I understand and agree with the concept of linking Getting/Avoidng Strikeouts to Avoiding/Getting Hits, but the simultaneous and independent ability to Get/Avoid Strikeouts results in excessive talent in that category in the majors IMO, which then leads to a lack of excellence in performance in those categories because the majority of players are at the upper end of the spectrum with very similar ability. If up for a vote, I would choose to eliminate independent increases in Getting/Avoiding Strikeouts unless that player already has Brilliant talent in Hitting for Average/Avoiding Hits.

Lowering your draft rounds isn't going to have an immediate effect on a league already running. But if you've had 4-5 low drafts, I bet the talent level of your minor leagues is much lower than it had been, and you'll see that come through to the majors soon.
Unfortunately, the way it will manifest itself at first is in nearly all young players sucking very badly against their elders. Eventually it will even out, but your retired players will forever be justified in complaining about how poor the baseball is in these degenerate days.

Using GForce rosters, in August 2004 I signed 37 year old Omar Vizquel to a one year contract extension. Only one week later his range at SS dropped from "A" to "C" in one day (a double negative development). I knew Omar's hitting ratings would drop but I never imagined he'd go from being a premier defensive SS to an ordinary bum. I was lucky to find a team (the Yankees) willing to trade a 2 blue star prospect for Omar the next off season.
Steve used the word "dynamic" to describe these ups and downs. I wasn't happy when Omar tanked (right after I signed him to an extension) but the unpredictability of this amazing game is one of its most endearing traits! |

Hey! A GM came to me with a question, right now we are using OOTP4 but it is probably the same in OOTP5. I can guage fairly well talent but this got me wondering so I wondered what you guys have to say:
If a player has a "Brilliant" in strikeouts but also has a 1 rating. Does that mean he will be brilliant and is still developing and right now if he were in the majors his rating would be a 1? Hopefully you guys understand what I am asking. He also was saying how a lot of his young players don't improve very often during the season, not maybe it does in OOTP5 not sure....but shouldn't they improve year round? Greg CWBL Commish |

As for his young guys they are certainly improving it is just often by hidden decimal points that we aren't seeing. Some guys have sudden, dramatic increases that jump right out at you while others are slow and steady and others take years and years to even increase a noticeable amount... In V.5 you will notice it is a bit more variable though and you will see more young guys who develop earlier than they would have in V.4. |
