"Trading Block"
For manager mode players, what has been your experience with placing players on the trading block? Does the computer take advantage of that opportunity to initiate trade talks with you? I haven't seen much activity when I placed a 23 year old 5-star prospect out there.

I never get any decent offers from trading block players. Well, I should not say never. Rarely would be a better decription.

Playing a historic league (not in Manager Mode) I had more offers than I could deal with. Playing now with Rocco's db in manager mode I rarely get offers, and the ones I get are jurt too ridiculous to consider (I was once offered Jose Guillen in return for CC Sabathia and Jody Gerut).

Using GForce rosters, I put Ellis Burks on the trading block in July 2003. Burks had announced he was retiring at year end but was hitting .310 with 18 HRs at the All-Star break. I figured a team in contention (my Indians were in last place) would offer some great prospects for Burks.
I never got a single offer. The trading deadline came and went. Burks had a couple talent drops but his ratings stayed high enough that he finished the year (and retired) with a .305 BA, over 30 HRs and 120 RBIs. (The real life Indians weren't so lucky.) In real life someone would've made an offer for Ellis Burks, even if it was an unrealistic one (some lousy two blue star prospect). But I never got even a nibble. I'd like to see putting a veteran player on the trading block cause at least some interest from contending teams (even a ridiculously low offer is better than being ignored). |

The computer does seem to make offers for players on your trading block more often, at least in my experience, but putting someone worthless on your trading block doesn't mean anyone else will want him. The AI still wants to fill its own holes first and foremost, which is good.

Yes, I had the same experience and posted the same issue a few weeks ago. I waited years and I mean YEARS to get an offer.

In one year and one month of a league I have put 4 players on the trading block and traded two of them, picking from multiple offers (both players were average ~30 yr old relievers). Two older average position players on the block received no interest.

Nice board name
![]() BTW, I've had a fair number of offers for "trade block" players and some have sat w/ no offers at all. Not perfect, but helps.

My experience is that the AI will not just offer deals out without reason for guys on the trading block. It still goes through the process of: A) Do they need that player, or can that player help them? B) Do we have something comparible to offer that team that they can use (in the AI's opinion)? .. if not, they don't offer.. .as others have said though, it does seem to raise the "awareness" of that player to being able to be traded though...

I've had a player on the block for a few weeks and eventually got an Email saying that he wanted me to reconsider trading him cause he wanted to stay with my team. He was an alright player so I pulled him off the next day.
My question is if I would have kept him there would it have affected his stats or placing someone on the block affect his game at all, such as not playing hard for you or anything like that? |

Well these players werent on the block, but I was offered a good deal by the computer and I had to share. Anaheim offered me 25 year old slugging outfielder Mike O'Keefe for 3 minor leaguers, the highest at 3 1/2 stars. O'Keefe has a 5 in hits with a 10 in HR's. Good offer if you ask me
![]() I have Rey Ordonez, but nobody has made an offer for him. Strange

I have noticed that when the computer puts a player on the block it usually wants more in return than if you just initiated a regular trade for the guy without him on the block.

One glaring flaw about the trades is about the financial system. There is nothing like " adding some extra payroll for the playoff push" in this game. And "salary dump to the Yankees" would never happen since the AI is trying too hard to just match the income and cost instead of making more money. All this make the trades more like NBA instead of MLB. |

Sounds like your experience is a little bit different than what I have seen over my various leagues

Why don't you PM Billycola and see how many offers he got for Harold Baines and Tim Wallach last year when they were put on the trade block... in real life if stars go on the block, people want them!
