Best One Year Turnaround In Online League Play?
My 1984 ORB Toronto Blue Jays finished 52-110 for a winning pct. of .321.
This year, the Jays are 29-22, in 2nd place, 5 games back of Cleveland, the division leader in the AL East. Sure, it's early, but the Jays are looking strong and haven't even called on their uber-prospect Eric Davis yet, however with Rufino Linares going down with a season ending injury, he may be up soon. Top prospect Tom Browning is getting better with each start, so the Jays may not even be near their peak yet. So what's your best one-year turnaround? I'm thinking if I can get the Jays into the playoffs, one year after a 52-110 series, it will definitely be my best one year turnaround, and may be one of the best in online league play ever... |

1954 Boston Red Sox in the Summer of '49.
After going 67-87 in 1953 and finishing in seventh place, the Red Sox are 57-20 with a 15 game lead in the American League on June 30. |

MBBA Lexington Lightning.
Inaugural season: 57-105 Second season: 84-78 Still missed playoffs though. I also think the conversion to OOTP5 helped me out as it seemed to minimize the Coors-effect of my Man 'O War stadium.

At least until the UBL season starts, my best actually is:
NML Milwaukee Keggers - took over early in the 1924 season - team had the worst record in the league.... although I don't remember exactly what it was. They went over .500 down the stretch and finished 4th worst. 1925 - 88-74, got the wildcard, then lost 1-0 in the decisive fifth game to the ^&%*$@#* Chicago Fire. Look out for us in 1926......

My best is taking an old Arizona Diamondbacks team who finished 68-94 (last place in the division) and 27 games back in 2003 to a first place finish in 2004 (95-67 record). I ended up losing in the first round of the playoffs though. Hoping to get my revenge this year.

Best one I can remember happened in GDBA with the Detroit Tigers:
1938 48-106 (Worst record in the league) 1939 94-60 (Won division, lost in playoffs) They nearly doubled their previous years win total thanks to a couple of kids named Ted Williams (drafted in 1939) and Joe DiMaggio.

Escanaba Miners of the NML, had the second worst record in the leagues first season 1921, in the 1922 season the Miners took their division and went on to destroy their opponent in the league champsionship that season. The Miners followed up with another championship in 1923 and set a record for wins for the league at 104 (since broken).
I should point out that the team the Miners beat for the 1922 championship was the Rochester Ravens who had the 3rd worst record in the 1921 season. Both teams had huge turn arounds.

The PWBL Boston Braves haven't done it yet, but could very easily see a huge turnaround this year. Their starting pitching is killer and while their offense will blow no one's socks off, it could be very good by the end of the season.

Houston 93 69 .574 .281 4.31 and lost in NLCS (1982)
Houston 58 77 .430 .268 4.14 in 1982 This is a team in a league I'm in the commissioner for (not my team). Reason for a turnaround like this is simple, league rules are built for teams to rebuild. Salary Cap & only 2 Contract Extensions per year... Thus, FA Pool is RICH !!! There are teams available -- so come join the fun... http://twbl.ootp-league.com Chas

you're not in first place yet. The Grays offense is WAY too much for you to overcome. |
