LA Dodgers - Throw in the towel?
The Dodgers are now 10 ½ games behind The Hated Ones in the National League West and things are looking darker with each passing day. When the pitching is good, the hitting is absent. When the hitters are coming through as they did in the St. Louis series, the pitching suddenly looks horrible. Although the ’78 Yankees and the ’95 Mariners will tell you different, a double digit deficit in late July is usually close to insurmountable.
Leave it to “Mr. Sunshine” Jim Tracy to see differently. Forget about the Wild Card. Tracy still think the Dodgers are going to win the West. “We’ve seen teams get it done in the past and that has to be our goal.” A couple more losses and the Dodgers will be closer to the Padres (who are 25 games out) than they will be to the front running Gnats. So, Fat Ron Coomer is still on the DL because of a sore jaw. If Coomer would stop eating so damn much, his jaw might stop hurting. Odalis Perez looks nothing like the pitcher who tossed three 1-hitters over the past two years. Andy Ashby still sucks. Wilson Alvarez is still playing on borrowed time. Shawn Green is still having the worst year of his career and has yet to smile, frown, or do anything else that proves he is not a zombie. Jack Clark still does not belong in a Dodgers uniform. Rickey Henderson and Jeromy Burnitz combined for 3 homers in one game and it’s still not enough to win. Darryl Ward is still hitting less than his old man, Gary Ward, would hit if he put on a uniform today. Jolbert Cabrera has still done nothing to encourage the good Angelino’s of LA to name their newborn sons Jolbert (Christ!). And yet, I still watch the Dodgers night after night on TV. What a glutton for punishment!

You mean you didn't throw in the towel in March?
![]() I don't think the Dodgers can get passed both SF and ARI. Maybe one of them, but not both. |

Sadly, both of our So Cal teams are in the same boat.... they're close enough to the playoffs to keep hope alive, but far enough away to where they aren't realistically likely to make it.

Gotta respect ya for still watching even when they're 10 1/2 out.

![]() I'm just looking at the Wild Card although that is no easy taks for them either. The Dodgers are "only"4 back but would have to pass both Philly and AZ. St. Louis, FLA, and Chicago are all within 1 game as well.

And no, they will not be able to overcome all of those teams to win the Wild Card. Face it. The Dodgers stink. They never should have traded Sheffield. EDIT - And if they're not careful, the Orioles will end up with a better record than them. |

What it really comes down to is fan support. If Dodgers' fans could actually be bothered to stay after the 7th inning, the hitters would start producing for their fervent supporters.

i guess the people at the stadium arent masochist's like our friend LL here: they cant take the pain of watching the dodgers let another win slip through their fingers.

LL, how long before I can gloat ? And how long before I can pick that sig for you ?
... Look, ot offer some sympathy, at least Evans won't bankrupt the system again for MR- and he won't trade away 3 top prospects for a veteran 3b either.

Guess LA should have kept Karros and they should never have traded for Hundley.
Didn't they learn from the first time around? |
