OOTP History v5.2 Error 55

I'm getting:

Error 55: File already open has occurred

I get the error when I click on "Create HTML pages." Everything seems to import fine, I change some award names and some award winners, but that's about it. I don't use player pictures, but turning them on doesn't correct the error.

Fictional league, 24 teams in 2 leagues, this is the first season.
Any ideas?

Thanks again to Cato for all the great features. I hope I can get this working.

Oh yeah, meant to send you an email. I'm not sure why, but your lnews and ltrans files are not like what my program is expecting. Players' names aren't hyperlinked. My program looks for those html tags to find the player names. I don't know what settings you are using for that to happen. The only things I change from the default are setting the Player pages and game logs to No.

How this happens is front importing an OOTP4 league into OOTP5 and then generating reports and using Cato 5.

I just received this error with a fresh league in OOTP5. Is there any way to correct it without turning player pages off?

Details:

2 Leagues with 2 divisions each with 4 teams each starting in 1903.

During the Import / Copy Data an "Application-Defined or Object-Defined Error" occurs.

OK is pressed and the import continues to the Getting Player Histories where a "File Already Open" error occurs.

OK is pressed and the import proceeds to the compression stage and finishes.

Create HTML is selected and the following instantly occurs:

"Error 55: File Already Open Has Occurred"

I have looked for all of the obvious signs that others have described as being potential problems. There were no other issues in regards to names and such being too long. There were no periods included in any name what so ever. There were no duplicate abbreviations or any other character limit violation including quotation marks and the like.

However, when viewing the list of players in the league I came across 2 players that had the same exact name. Since the problem is being reported as "file already open" when dealing with player histories it would seem that this could be the problem. I am going to run a couple of test to determine for certain.

If anyone has any insight on duplicate names being generated in the game and whether or not that they could cause problems in any way please post your comments.

Damn. I was really hoping that would have resolved the problem but the same error occurred again.

I guess another email attempt to Cato couldn't hurt.

Couriers, I'd like to try and help, and Cato hasn't been around the forums lately (although I don't know if he's answering support emails).

If you can find some way to get the league file to me I can take a look at it as well, no promises though.

Excellent. Your willingness to look into the league is very kind. No expectations obviously.

Here is a link to the league file.

I did not include Logos or Photo so make sure you turn that option off.

The Message folder and Expimp folders were not included because they were both empty.

All teams are computer controlled and manager mode is not activated.

Please let me know if there are any problems or if there is anything else that I can supply from the master league file.

Also, this is the original league folder that contains the duplicate player name. There are two different players, one in the majors and the other in the minors, both names James Jackson.

Sounds good, I'm getting the file now and can take a look.

Coincidence? The league I run is called the NABA, too.

I'll let you know what I can find out and if I need any more info.

I had noticed the name of your league awhile back and though the same thing about it being a coincidence. My ideas for the league seem to be along the same lines as yours were. Although the Mexican and Canadian teams will be added as expansion at a later date. Each will get their own division in one of the leagues.

Well, this doesn't fix the problem, but you'll be happy to know I duplicated the problem exactly. On the same system where I've gotten other leagues' history generated OK, I worked with your file and reproduced the same errors as you described. So, it's not your setup (although you probably eliminated that early on), there's something with the data that doesn't jive, or that the History program is choking on.

I'll try to look through the data to see if there's anything out of order, will let you know how it goes.

Couriers,

I think I got your problem figured out (crossing fingers).

I noticed when the import fails, in the .MDB file, most all of the data was there, except the TeamStats table appeared to be incomplete. Six teams were missing.

I figured there was some sort of problem importing the vital stats for those teams, and tracked it down to an inconsistency with the park ID numbers in PARK.CSV and TEAMS.CSV.

My guess is after the custom ballparks were created for the league, the extra unused parks were deleted from the league file. CommishJoe confirms this could cause a problem in this thread:

http://www.400softwarestudios.com/bo...threadid=30496

So, what I had when I examined the two files was that in TEAMS.CSV, the park numbers didn't match up with the numbers in PARK.CSV. For example, on line 3 of TEAMS.CSV, the High Plains team has a Park(50) ID of 21; however, in PARK.CSV, the ID numbers only go up to 16, and High Plains' field (Eastwood Yard) has an ID of 11.

To fix this problem, you have to manually edit the TEAMS.CSV to fix the Park(50) field so that all ID numbers match what is found in PARK.CSV. In the above example, I edited line 3 of TEAMS.CSV to change Park(50) from 21 to 11. I then repeated the process for the other 5 teams.

Once I did this, I was able to start from scratch and import all your data successfully with no errors; it even generated the HTML pages fine (woo!).

I uploaded the fixed TEAMS.CSV file for you, you can download it at

http://www.spleen1015.com/naba/courierteams.zip

Let me know how it goes! Hopefully this is another mysterious OOTP History error that has a workaround.

Wow. You won't believe this but during my nap just now, yes I am old, the idea of looking into the park information struck me so hard that I just had to get up. I had used the Stadium Editor to delete the extra parks just as you had suggested. I had done this with another league that I had used with Cato's that ended up working without any problems. However, it dawned on me that after using the editor the NABA league had trouble with the correct parks being assigned to the correct teams. I had manually fixed the problem within the game and hadn't thought about it again until just tonight.

Excellent find. My hat is truly off to you for being able to discover such a problem and to fix it as well.

I am guessing that I will need to edit the Teams.csv file after each season to match up correctly. This is a guess without having downloaded the fixed version yet so I haven't taken a look into the changes that you had made.

Thank you so much. I give is a test run and will let you know how it ends up.

No problem! Got lucky on a hunch, so I hope it allows you to get the pages done. Let me know!

I think editing TEAMS.CSV every year would need to be done, or you could possibly just edit PARK.CSV once (make the IDs match TEAMS.CSV) and use it over and over again; assuming the parks don't change - if a team relocates, you may have to do some more editing though.

Good luck, and I hope anyone else having the same problem finds this info to be of some use.

I don't plan on having the parks change so altering the Parks.csv once may be the best way to go with this. Once the expansion occurs then it will have to be altered again but that should be a lot easier than editing the Teams.csv every single season.

Couple of questions:

1. Can the CSV files simply be edited using MS Excel? Everything that I make changes and attempt to save it the program warns about certain features not being available. I did a test run and made the same changes that you had done to the Teams.csv but received the dreaded Line 2 error in the Team.csv file the first time I tried to import stats.

2. Would there be a way to have fixed this right from the start of the season. If so then it might be best for me to just apply the fix from the get go and to start the entire league over again. I have a backup league folder from prior to starting.

If I'm going to edit csv files, I end up using Notepad (turn off word wrap) instead of Excel. That way I avoid any potential formatting issues.

Thumbs up

Thanks. I just did that and ended up with a successful import. It feels so good to finally get passed this.

I just need to run another import test with having the Park.csv file edited instead of the Teams.csv file in the hopes that I can save some work at the end of each season.

After that, I’ll need to test the HTML creation since I haven’t done that yet.

Thanks again to A.J. for saving me from this hell. I really didn’t want to not use the utility for this league and I am very happy that it didn’t come to that.

Good deal! EvanW is right on the ball, editing .CSV directly in Excel is a crapshoot sometimes because it tries to add additional formatting sometimes. Notepad is a great choice, I use UltraEdit which is a little more flexible.

Editing the PARK.CSV one time and re-using it should be the way to go unless you change or add parks. Good luck on the output!

I ran 3 different tests last night and I am very happy to say that all 3 were successful, each one more so than the previous.

Test 1: Edited the Teams.csv file as directed for the 6 teams that were mismatched.

Test 2: Edited the Park.csv file as suggested for the 6 teams that were mismatched.

Test 3: Changed the ballparks via the team setup menu within the game itself for the 6 teams that were mismatched to one of the ballparks that were exported correctly. All 6 of the mismatched ballparks were then deleted using the stadium editor. From within the game 6 new ballparks were created and the stats for each of the mismatched ballparks were imported to recreate the correct settings. Each of the 6 teams were then reset to their original ballparks in the team setup menu.

All of the tests produced successful imports as well as successful HTML creations. The first test was an easy enough fix but obviously the second option would have been a bit easier in the long run. Cleary the third test is the way to go since it worked without a hitch. This will allow me to continue my league without having to start over or having to edit any of the exported files at the end of each season or when stadiums are altered from within the game.

Thanks again A.J.

You probably feel rather good having been able to fix such an odd problem and I am sure that you could just imagine how happy I really am. I can now start playing the game again after a 4-day layoff. I need to get my fix.
