Pitching Crazy

I have pitchers who have 8 in rating's across the board and a scouting report saying they are talented enough to be the ace of a staff. The problem is they are either 2 and a half or 3 star players and that means there is a crazy amount of starting pitching talent in my league. I looked around and there is are a lot of quality pitchers around my league...

What can I do to even this up? Pitching in the league has overpowered batting so much it is not uncommon to see pitchers with ERAs in the 2's and with losing records.

Adjusting the league totals might help. Maybe lower the number of hits and homers, and that might increase the amount of offense and even thins up a little bit.

Alright, so I need to LOWER the totals?

Should I recalculate the totals in any way? I'm just looking at the league totals screen and I'm not really too sure how much I should be adjusting them and if I should click the recalculate button or not.

But yeah, the league is too pitching heavy. One year, there was only one .300 hitter in the NL! And when pitchers with 8 ratings across are only considered 2 or 3 star players... that should tell you good pitching is a common thing within the league.

This is the easiest way to explain how to modify the league totals without having to think about whether the numbers need to be raised or lowered. Here's how you do it:

1. Go into your league news section and look at league batting.

2. Look at what league total batting averages are to determine what your overall league is currently hitting.

3. For example, say your league is currently hitting .240 and you want the average to be .265. Divide .240 by .265 and you get .9057.

4. Go into your league totals and multiply your hits (default is around 43,000) by .9057 and you get 38,945. Use this number for your hits and your league batting average should rise to somewhere around .265.

You can modify any of the league totals up or down using this method and you should get pretty accurate results.

I do it basically the same way as RD17 except I care even less about accuracy and more a general ballpark figure and hence use an even simpler version.

Using his example if I have a league hitting .240 and want .265 I know that I need to increase the number of hits by approximately 10% (.240 + .024 = .264). I then look at the hits number and DECREASE hits by 10%. So if the default is 43000 ish I would decrease that by 4300 or so.

I never get too exact and I write down the original values to go back to if the league starts returning to "normal". His way is more accurate but I can't be bothered with the calculations since the amount of "randomness" in the game will ensure they are never dead on anyway.

Hummm.... looks like a good spot for a clarification

Don't forget that when changing doubles, triple, and homeruns, you are "trading" one type hit for another. Since "hits" stays the same, a 10% increase in homeruns (for example) will result in a 10% accumulative DECREASE in doubles, triple, and even singles.
