Does anybody play with talents only?

After the initial draft does anybody switch over to the "talents onlY" ratings.

Im thinking about trying it after I get my computer back running the game (got hacked, lost my c drive and im trying to get everything running again).

But if im going to go through and make all the stadiums, go through a draft and find logos and such for the teams I dont want to get sick of the talents only.

So does anybody switch to these and do you have fun with them and would you suggest using it.

I use talent only in one of my leagues and I really like the change of pass from the usual settings. You can always go into the league setup and change this at any point.

I think 'talent only' is a much more challenging game. Combining talent only with scouts produces a few players that never live up to their potential and a few others that succeed despite marginal perceived ability. Seems a lot more like real baseball to me.

"Talent only" is all I've ever used. I'm for anything to make the solo game more challenging. I also try to use no better than "average" scouts. Makes it pretty interesting.

I have alot of fun using talents only. I don't get sick of it at all.

What I do for fictional leagues is I'll start the league off in traditional...and play the entire first season that way...and then just after the spring training...I switch it. I find I get a good starting handle for my team this way. Once I switch I find it much less predictable and more of a challenge. I rely heavily on the stats the players have put up to determine R/L situaltional moves.

As said above, as long as you don't lock it you can always go back and change it to traditional or reduced. I use Cato History program which shows the ratings as they were at the end of the season for the players. So I still get to see the players ratings just not all the time. It works for me.

The OTBL uses it. It's very tough. Drafting is a crap shoot.

I wish talents only worked with the reduced rating set (rather than showing the traditional talents)... then I'd use it all the time.

We use it for the World Cup Tournament only to prevent others from seeing the real ratings. However, i played it with my solo league once too, very challenging.

I use it in my solo league....there are times I wish I could see the ratings, but I feel like it is much more like the real game this way. I have only potential, scouting reports, and actual performance results to work with. When that supposedly good player doesn't perform, I don't really know if it is that he is in a slump or that his ratings are just low. Much more challenging.....

I always use talent only in my solo leagues and in both of the on-line leagues I run. As LL mentioned, it increases the difficulty level. For solo leagues this especially important because no matter how good the game's AI is (and I think it is good) it is much to easy to beat up on the computer. I'm not sure I see the challenge in knowing the exact ratings a player has (yes, I know the scouts do give some margin for error). This is simply not realistic. In real life you only have the opinions of your scouts and the statistical record to base your moves on. I don't know why I would want the game to be any different.

I've said this a million times before - if the game did a better job of keeping track of a player's L/R stats over his career, talent's only would be a great, great feature.

as of now, it's too much of a crap shoot.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

I agree with you DD.. but I love playing with Talent only. What I end up doing is actually running OOTP History each season on my Solo league so I can keep track of the L/R splits historically. Its a shame that this isnt in the game for career stats, but I am guessing its a db space vs benefit of stat question. Either way, using an outside programe to keep track of the historical L/R splits seems to work for me, and makes my talent only leagues fun

way too much work for me. but, I figure if I bitch enough, someday someone will hear me (or Skydog will suggest it).
I'd been begging for the head-to-head standings for years, and that finally crept in...so there's still hope.

(and hope that reduced ratings would have ratings for L & R)

Yes.. reduced ratings seems not as helpful as statistics because of this lacking..
