Problem after dumping loads of OOTP files
I know this might not be in an area that you may be able to help since it's an Internet Explorer problem, but it was caused directly by deleting large numbers of OOTP5 files.
To test OOTP5 out, I ran a rather lengthy simulation. Quite a few years. After I was done with the files, I dumped them with the recyling bin. Most of the files eliminated were .html files, so that may be related to the problem I'm having? My problem is that Internet Explorer is now running painfully slow as a result of deleting such a large quantity of files (at least that'd seem to me the reason). I've run scandisc, fragmented, run Spybot and Adaware, but none have seemed to restore Internet Explorer to the speed it ran before dumping the files. The problems I'm having with IE are... when entering info in search fields, there is a long delay before my keystrokes show up on screen. In fact, there's a good delay when I'm typing in this message field. I am running Windows Millenium Edition (yuck..) and have an 800 mhz AMD Duron processor with 300 and some MB of RAM (forget the exact number). I know you might not be able to help since it's not a direct problem with the OOTP5 software, but any suggestions short of reformatting would be helpful .-edit- I may not have been clear on all the troubles I'm having with IE. Pages also scroll slowly and it tends to freeze for a few seconds a lot of the time. Thanks. |

I would hope that you have rebooted your computer since deleting the files haven't you?

Yes, of course. I rebooted and ran scandisc and defrag after dumping the files.

I don't think that the removing of the OOTP files would cause the slow down, there has to be another reason. Have you run defrag on your system recently?

Have you attempted to re-install IE?
Also, make sure you're up-to-date with your virus definitions (you ARE running anti-virus software, right?). You might also go to http://windowsupdate.com, and make sure that you have the latest patches and security updates for IE installed. --Eriq. |
