Waivers and the DL
Why can't I take my A-balling 27-year-old SP off the 15-day DL without having him clear waivers? Is this the way it's supposed to work? The guy has never pitched in anything other than A ball, but he has to clear waivers before I can take him off the DL and return him to his league ... doesn't seem right.

Actually, you never need to put any of your minor leaguers on the 15-day DL.

So what? Does the game thus assume I never would?

When programing (or beta testing) you have to assume the user will do anything, and then program to save them from themselves at times.... SSG Troyer - by placing the minor leaguer on the major league DL, you've essentially promoted him to the bigs - so yes - he will have to clear waivers to head back to Single A. |

Well, being that there isn't a manual telling people not to put minor leaguers on the DL, I find it pretty funny that one would expect people NOT to do certain things. Most people, espcially people unfamiliar with the game, would see an injured guy and place him on the DL.
Why does the game allow you to put minor leaguers on the DL in the first place, assume they are major leaguers (making them clear waivers), and not give them any service time or contracts? I think we are starting to get a clear picture on the answer to that.

The game right now assumes the DL was the Major League DL (there are seperate Minor League DLs in real life) as a result all the players on the DL acrue Major League Service time, and meaning they'd have to follow the normal procedure to come off the active and 40 man rosters if they are being returned to the minors. I suspect the guy didn't get the Major League minimum contract because the action of putting him on the active roster is what triggers the change in contract.
Not really a bug, but something that was never made clear about the way it's supposed to work. Making it impossible to put Minor Leaguers on the DL would probably simplify matters for everyone. |

^^^^^ Yeah, what he said.
And it's been almost a month since this was posted on the forums. I know you feel like it's beating a dead horse, and are free to tell me so, but issues like this can be cleared up fairly easily.

so if we are not suppose to put minor league players on the disable list.
does ootp do a good job not playing the injure player in the minors? or we need to take him off the lineup or pitching staff? |

I know at least when I've been caught by this my minor leaugers accrued their service time. Here's what he says:
Years of MLB Service: 0 years 0 days MLB Service Days this year: 22 days (the length of time he was on the DL) Years on 40 man roster: 0 years 0 days. So your guy isn't showing up with any MLB Service Days this year? Or is he still just showing the 0 years 0 days? |

Unfortunately, I've since played an off-season, so his MLB Service days this year is now 0. I don't remember what it said last year, but it may have been similiar to yours.
He cleared waivers during the free agent period, BTW. I kept having to revoke his waivers until then ... was scared for a while I was gonna have to keep him on the DL forever.

There is one instance when you would want to add a player to the DL. That is when you have a minor leaguer, on your 40 man roster, who has a lengthy injury and you want to put him on the 60 day DL to clear up a 40 man roster spot. I hope this hasnt been added to the next patch.

Okay, then the game shouldn't allow anyone who is not on the 40-man to be put on the DL.
IF [player.40-man-flag] = ON THEN [allow DL] ELSE [error-message] Howzzat?
