Pitching prospects question

I've seen a few prospects in my league who are top top pitching prospects, yet are like 24 years old and still have "0" for avoiding runs. I know developing the avoiding runs rating is something of a slow crawl, but should I be concerned about acquiring one of these guys. I mean, if they are a 5 star prospect anyway, does the fact that they haven't yet advanced beyond a "0" indicate that the probably won't? Anyone have some good experience with this and could tell me if I should expect a significant jump this year for them, or whether I might as well not trade for them due to this?

Thanks

I've seen quite a few pitching prospects who were still 0's until 24-25 wind up developing into excellent pitchers.

That said, I still tend to be a bit leery of them, just as I would be of a 23 year old position player whose ratings are still very low.

Yes, I would likely avoid them - 24 year olds need to have at least a 2 in Avoiding Runs for me to really start giving them the push into the majors. Once they hit a 2 or 3, I give them some major league time, or else they may be stunted at the AAA-level. Some guys develop slower, and some guys develop faster, but to answer your question I would be a little hesitant to trade for a 24 year old with a 0 in Avoiding Runs.

It seems that there are alot more 20 y/o position players with pro-ready ratings than pitchers
