Disable sounds.

Update your soundcard drivers.

What version of DirectX are you using? If you don't have the latest version you can pick it up at Microsoft's site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx

You will want to make sure you're soundcard's drivers are up to date as mentioned by Gastric Reflux as well.

I had that problem on my laptop, and I had to disable the game sound, as my drivers and DirectX are up-to-date. I don't miss the sounds, though. I've never even heard them.

Scott... DirectX 9.0 totally messes up everything on my computer, I've tried downloading it numerous times... what happens is it takes about 5 minutes to bootup, instead of the usual 30 seconds.

There is a DirectX 9.0a... but if it causes problems then you will probably be best served by disabling the sounds.

Ouch......ever considered changing OS? I used ME for about 6 months and had to reboot my PC 6 or 7 times a day to get things to run.

ME has to be the worst OS ever. I had problems with OOTP4 and ME (along with many other ME related problems). I changed to XP shortly after and havn't had any problems with any OOTP products.
