I'm trying to get Cato's History to run, but it won't.
I followed instructions by installing v4 and then installing v5.3 over it. I can create a database easily enough, but when I go to the options and enter the data, I get the following error message whether I press Apply or OK: run time error multiple step operation generated errors check each status value The program then disappears, but apparently continues to run in the background. I can shut it down through task manager, but that's all I can do. Obviously, I want to run this baby since like everyone else who gets hooked on this game, I need to know more about my team and league. Thanks in advance, GB

You might try installing 4.0, then the upgrade 4.0 to 5, and then 5.3... not sure if there is anything that would impact it like that, but there might be.

Wrong data should be some unacceptable value or even a LONGER STRING then the field size! That would indicate that you may have entered too much information in one of the fields, my guess would be the awards names or league names, maybe the paths too - check that out anyway. |

I had that problem too once...I eventually gave up trying to run the utility on that league, its the only one that gave me problems...there were some really long team names and what not...I wonder if that was all that it was....

cato help
Still can't get cato to work. Exported csvs with v 5, i set paths, and when i run i get this strange error:
"There is a problem importing line 2 in the file \league.csv. Open this file in notepad, uncheck wordwrap. Look for odd characters, fix, and try again." I tried this, but no dice, I keep getting the same error, and i've been stumped by this stupid thing for the better part of a day. Anyone have a clue? tx in advance, loc |

Make sure you are using the older exporter and not the latest version that's available on the BOSI pages. Use the exporter that is available through Cato's site because the newer version inserts an extra line for arbitration contracts.
Here is a very helpful "how to" written by Robert Buss, one of our owners. SOme of it is specific to the teams in our league, but the general principles should hold: The OOTP History program is very particular about where league files are placed. This accounts for about 90% of the problems I’ve come across. With that in mind: Create c:\leaguesite – paste into this a copy of the league’s ltrans.html file. (For some reason, the game had generated an ltrans.htm file rather than the ltrans.html required by the OOTP History program. I had to save the former as the latter to get OOTP History to work properly. When I didn’t, I had to either hit cancel (losing the ability to process trades in the process), or generate another error message.) Create c:\history -- within this, create data and website folders Use Joe’s exporter program (version 5, downloadable from the same site as OOTP History) to create the twenty-one .csv files in the c:\history\data folder (Go to http://bosi.jpbaseball.com/help/csv.php to help on how to run these programs. Section 2 is the one you want to read. The rest is BOSI specific. There is some BOSI specific information in section 2, but not too much.) Let me know if you have any questions. You will want to place a copy of the original injury.txt file from your original OOTP5\Data folder here as well. Using OOTP History 5.3.0, create new IOSBL.mdb database file within the c:\history folder. Modify the characteristics of the IOSBL file as desired (e.g., minimum AB/IP for leaderboards, location of league and box score folders, etc.) – it is very important to apply the changes you make one at a time. Not doing so will, more likely than not, generate an error message. You will be prompted during the .csv file processing for the season start and end dates. Season start date: 4/1 Season end date: 10/6 (I’ve read somewhere that it’s a good idea to add a day or two to the actual date in case there is a need for a playoff game for the last playoff spot.) The next prompt I get is to change one of the SD abbreviations. I’ve been changing Dakota to DAK. I then get the prompt that “C:\leaguesite\league.html not found”. There is no league.html file in my IOSBL league folder (for notation of league all-stars), so I usually press cancel. I’m then prompted that “C:\Program Files\OOTP5\Create.lg\logos\ and c:\Program Files\OOTP5\create.lg\pictures were not found”. The solution here is to create the C:\Program Files\OOTP5\Create.lg folder ahead of time and place a copy of your Logos and Pictures folders inside it. Paste the correct location of the IOSBL.lg\LEAGUE_NEWS_BOX\PLAYERS folder when prompted. The database will then obtain the player histories. You’ll then see a message stating that the database is being compacted. This will only take a few seconds. After this step, you’re brought back to the program’s main screen. Click on the create.html pages button. Then you’re done – this creates the index.html file and all the rest of the webpages in the c:\history\website folder. This is the step that requires about 2 hours on my P3-600 (512 MB RAM). Last edited by Chris Johnson; 06-01-2003 at 11:44 AM. |

great!
thanks -
I'll try this straightaway.I have been wondering if i can use cato's util on my older league which i converted from ootp4 - 92 seasons worth of good times. The trouble is that i don't have any of the csvs, i don't think, just all the data from the hof and whatever is stored in the player db. Any idea if this is worth trying? Thanks again for the clear and comprehensive reply. best, /loc |

As long as you follow the steps correctly, I don't see why this would be a problem, but who knows with the History program
. If you can somehow create the CSVs for the league it should work, but otherwise the program seems to be too sensitive to minor deviations.

hmm - ok - a quick question. Does the history program assume you create csvs after every season? I thought this was a feature of the almanac (well, not precisely a feature, but you can have all the data stored in html files and then manually export each csv). I am concerned only because I haven't been making csvs of my league.dat et al for each season.
Ugh. It really seems as though a degree of automation in these tasks would sure help. ./loc |

Hmmm, I'm not sure. I've only been using it for our first season, so we aren't at the point where we've had to worry about multiple seasons yet.

To get the full data for the Cato reference you need .csv files for every season.
You can however get the historical stats into the Cato reference by using the Carrer Stats exporter. You'll see all the stats, you just won't get all the team and league pages from years where you weren't able to generate the .csv files. |

argh, this is incredibly frustrating. One bombs with the 3021 error, the other with the null error. If anyone has any experience with either of these things, please let me know.

Killebrew:
Between today's game and this program, it's all about even. I'm getting the "There is a problem opening line 2" error. I really don't want to have to try ver 4, but it looks like that's the way it's going to go if what's been written earlier has been working. I'm waiting it out at this point to see if Locust9 has success since he seems to be having the same struggles as me. Now, as for the Twins.... man what an early bombing.... GB

gb-
well, i can get rid of the line 2 prob with the correct exporter and sticking the trans html in the leaguesite folder, but my stuff still wrecks at the create html pages with that null error, and I have no idea why. The only thing I can assume is that because I don't have all the csvs it errors out. Dunno. I have animating to do, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow. If you discover anything, or I do, I'll holler. Good luck! .loc http://the-elemental.net |

Still getting the line 2 error
I dl'd exporter 1.3 and re-did everything and it still is erroring out. Too frustrated right now. I'll delete everything and re-install later and see if it goes better. GB
