My all time dream team

I have been playing baseball sims since the mid 70s. First SOM and now OOTP. In those years, I have collected a bunch of players I would like to build a dream team with. I know how to do it. My question is, what about the rest of the team in my save? Most likely this season in MLB. How do I keep them competitive, too? As far as I know, there isn't a way to mass-import historical players, so every team would have access to past seasons of players. So if I added a player from 1979, I could add every player from 1979 at a time. Without having to do a lot of research, any suggestions?

Sure there is.

I am in the midst of making a Greatest All-Time Franchise Quick Start and so have been mass importing players by various sorting mechanisms all year as I put it together. I'd intended to put mass import.txt files in the mod broken out by team and like this - in its entirety - but why wait if someone is looking for them.

I want you to download this zip file.

https://www.mediafire.com/file_premi..._Ever.zip/file

Unzip it. See the two .csv files? Open them in Excel or a spreadsheet editor of your choice. Delete rows you don't want (so, e.g. everyone except those with 1979 as the year (feel free to sort the file as needed)). Now you have the first step to a mass import file. Delete the header row. And delete all columns except the ID and the year. Save and close the csv file under a different name (assuming you edited it to something in particular other than every batter/pitcher). Open File Explorer so you can see YourFileName.csv file in there, and click to edit the file name, then change the .csv to .txt. You will get a warning. Ignore it and change it to a .txt file.

You now have a customized mass import file for whatever you need. Since many pitchers hit too and some position players pitched an IP or two, you can filter those out and delete them after the mass import so you are just looking at pitchers and hitters, as needed.

Two very basic: What folder do I need to save them to? And how do I access it when starting a new game? Thanks again

Some place easy to navigate to as you open the historical player import tool on the free agent screen. I put my txt files in the same folder the /stats and all the other customizable folders sit so when I go to navigate to the txt it is one level up from where the game starts me. If you have imported single players, it’s that same pop up to use the file.

Can I use the import/export: import function? I have tried it, and it says "import complete," but players do not show up in the FA list. Or do I need to start a new game?

Free Agent Screen. Upper right in Commish mode. Import Historical Player. Select the historical.database.odb. Select import from a text file after setting the import parameters as you want them. Navigate to the txt files. Then hit import player after selecting that txt.

The pics are upper left 1. upper right 2. lower left 3. lower right 4. I think you are trying to use some import csv function. That's the wrong function.

Two questions or maybe three how do I filter to only have players from 1975 on. And how do I filter duplicates. I know the duplicates are different seasons but I don't want to see the same player on different teams. And do I have to filter before I import the list or can I filter in game? If I have to filter the raw files how do I export the current files I hope that made sense or just rename everything would probably be the easiest okay thank you

How good are you with spreadsheets? So, in Excel, I would either highlight the header, Hit the filter button, uncheck anything before 1975 on the filter for the year column. After it filters the results, select the ID and the year columns, copy and then paste VALUES ONLY in a new spreadsheet, save that as a csv file and then make a txt as described.

Alternatively, one could select all the data excluding the header, so cell B1 to whatever is the lower right corner, hit sort, sort by the year column, delete all the rows that sort below 1975. Then return to the steps I had.

As for duplicates, that would be a midseason trade so they are in that file with both sets of stats. That is more work. I usually import a team at a time using an additional filter so have never had to deal with that. If you are going just a given year at a time, it's easy, because if you have a csv file that is only 1975 (and then another that is just 1976, etc.) using my first method of moving things to a different file, post-sorting them by year, then you have say, 200 IDs and can highlight the column that is IDs and hit conditional formatting, show duplicates and the dupes will show up in Red and you just delete one of the rows with the dupe in red as they are easily visible,

So, I showed how to remove same season duplicates. If you want to not have multi-season dupes then you can still use that approach but don't sort by year. Every dupe will be in red. So if you have a bunch of riceji01 IDs, they will all show in red filler until you delete them. To see them next to each other in a massive, not by year, list - then sort by the IDs. Do you know you want the 1978 Jim Rice and the 2000 Pedro, etc. Years noted of who you want when?

Thank you for the thorough explanation. I did try something a little different. I randomized players' names. Eliminates duplicates, and the year becomes less relevant. But once I did that, every team signed 100s of free agents, including mine. I am set to make all transactions. So some teams had over $100,000,000 in debt. So I reloaded from a backup. How may I randomize names and keep the free agents as free agents?

Hmmm. Never run all transactions in any of my games. Make sure Do Not Disturb is off in manager home. The signing control is unrelated to the free agents. Was the control of team transactions set in a league setting? How many leagues are there? If there are minors in the universe did you take over transactions there too in its league menu?

Sorry for the confusion, I only run my team: modern MLB setup, but 2 expansion teams, including complete minors. BTW, I always play the Red Sox. Also Mr lansdowne street you do not have to reply to this I'll figure it out and if I really got stuck I'll let you know. Thank you

One final question. How can I get rid of all the players I added to my league.?

If they are the only Free Agents, go to the free agent screen, note the little circles on the far left of the names. At the top next to the word "POS" in default view, there is a header circle. Click it and it will select all the players on all the pages (if a player is not showing because a filter is on, it will not select him so ensure all the players are showing if you want them ALL gone) Once they are all selected, right click any player and select delete.

Hope I got ya pointed in the right direction. If you get stuck on anything, post as I'm subscribed to the thread. Let's hope Roman gets healthy soon. n the meantime, I'm watching Mookie on the Dodgers on Sunday Night Baseball and thinking what could have been.

Is there a way to filter by age/DOB? I already deleted every player before 1975. I think by only keeping players in early prime (25-26) that can cut down on dupes. Then give everyone left fictional names so dupes won't be so obvious. I did anythor import of 1975 plus and some players were assigned to teams, but none of the strs, and no players from that team's history.

The age and DOB info is on another csv. The Master.csv found in the /stats folder. An AI will recognize the IDs and years and you could try uploading your sheet and asking it to return a csv with x number of stars in their prime or otherwise doing some filtering for you.
