All-Time Franchise Greats League Possible?

Hello all. My very first post here. I am a Diamond-Mind convert, finally convinced to move on from that excellent-but-antiquated and DOS-based program that refused to develop any improvements... to OOTP 27, which looks great!

I am a complete noob. Here is my chief problem: I would like to create a player pool which includes all the greats from 30 franchises (I would combine Brooklyn and LA Dodgers, etc...and come up with 30 teams.)

Then, I would expect to run a competition where the Braves have a peak Maddux but also peak Henry Aaron... they might face a Mets team with both Tom Seaver and deGrom in the same rotation.

Is this even...possible in OOTP? It seems so geared to re-creating seasons, and then watching them age and progress.

What am I missing?

Is there any such existing player pool from which I could draft from 1800s to today?

Thank you for reading.

Good news it is possible. Bad news, I don't know how.
But for an idea of what can be done checkout the Big Beautiful Bash thread.
And the road to Omaha Thread. Have fun.

You can create your own historical league if you want to put in the legwork. Before I get into that though, there is an all time great QuickStart you may want to check out. It may scratch that itch for you. If you wanted to create your own league however you are going to want to start a fictional league. You will have to create all the teams, if you use mlb teams I think the game may upload all the jerseys and stadiums for you. If not you would have to do that as well. You will need to select a year you want to play in to set the statistical environment and game mechanics. (Do you want it to act like the deadball era or the steroid era) Now here is the hard part. You will have to import every player. To do this go to free agents and under the action tab select import historical players. That takes you to a screen where you enter in a players historical ID and the year you want them pulled from. Here are a few examples. Babe Ruth would be ruthba01 1927. That would give you Babe Ruth as the game recognizes him in 1927 as a 32 year old. Ty Cobb cobbty01 1909. This gives you Cobb as a young 22 year old. So on and so forth. Once you import your players you can go into the players editor page and assign them to a team. You can see how this can quickly become a labor of love. You have to know the player ID and year you want. This can be tricky. ID’s are the first 5 letters of the last name with the first 2 of the first name and 01 for a unique player. However a player like Randy Johnson is a historical name for 5 different players. If you want the big unit it is johnsra05 and whatever year you pick. Maybe someone knows an easier way of doing it but this would at least get you going if you wanted to dive into that project. If you do get a complete league done I would save it as a quick start before you play so you can go back to your creation time and time again. Good luck!

I wish this forum would have a FAQ section since this question comes up multiple times every year. I answered this back in 2018 or so and between my posts and other posts there were good answers about using text files. Try searching in the old forums. One suggestion is to do one team at a time and then verify the players were added correctly. There are historical uniforms made by silvam14 if you like. Here are two links that will help. The text file can also import to a specified team otherwise they are free agents. The text files uses the team abbreviation. ex) Yankees = nyy , Dodgers = lad

Hrycaj,
Thank you...this is exactly what I was asking for...I have no doubt it is going to take me a good long while to find all the players I want, but I think I can do it. I did it by hand with Diamond-Mind Baseball in years past, and I also played with friends where we mashed up all those all-time franchise greats into on draft pool, then made our own teams. I think I understand the direction you have given me. Thank you very much, again.

micropterus58,
Thank you also. I will see what I can find in the archives, and thanks for the uniform links too.

I'm digging this forum.

Happy Fourth!

bmcelroy8,

If you want to mass import every MLB'er for ease of adding them to teams, see my post here:
